Cherry On The Top. Tiger Ridge’s 2013 Triple Tiara winner

Turffontein Racecourse is abuzz with excitement as preparations heighten for the first leg of the SASCOC Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara on Saturday 1 March.

Olympic body SASCOC have again partnered with the Triple Crown, whilst renowned stud farm, Wilgerbosdrift again partners the Triple Tiara as these exciting series see top South African horses battling it out for the sought after titles afforded to the thoroughbreds who manage to win each of the three legs of series.

In addition to great horse racing, the day will see the return of the ever popular Joburg Prawn Festival where over two tons of prawns are expected to be sold at mouth-watering prices – 1/2 a kg of Queen Prawns for only R59 with chips or rice and a sauce of your choice. Live entertainment in the beer garden will offer adults hours of fun whilst the younger generation will have free access to the kiddies entertainment area.

Organizers have really upped the ante this year with the introduction of the Triple Crown Polo Finish Competition, this will see 3 brand new VW Polo Vivo’s being given away, 1 for each leg of the Triple Crown! All you have to do is find your entry form in a copy of The Citizen newspaper and be at Turffontein Racecourse on the day to enter. 10 finalists will be drawn at each leg of the Triple Crown and the final draw will happen on Saturday 26 April where all three cars will be given away!

Wilgerbosdrift_nys12National Marketing Manager for Phumelela Gaming, Michael Varney commented, “The success of last year’s Joburg Prawn Festival has grown so much that this year we have had to order over 2 tons of generously sized Queen Prawns, at which we challenge anyone to beat the prices they will be sold at! We are expecting record attendance figures at the first leg of the Triple Crown as race goers and prawn lovers alike stand a chance to win one of the three zooty Polo Vivo’s we will be giving away!

Gates open at 11 and entrance is free. For more information, contact 011 681 1796.
