A generous R20 012 donation from a punter is the latest contribution to Kirra Kotzen’s Save Our Jockeys fund, which has entered the home straight.
The donor list is diverse and includes other punters, breeders, owners, jockeys, trainers and racing fans.
Kirra told the Sporting Post this morning that she was now aiming for a target of R200 000.
“We are in a 400m dash now. Everybody has been wonderfully supportive and we need that little burst to get us over the finish line,” she pleaded as she again thanked all for their interest and contribution.
With the blessing and support of the Coastal Jockeys Association, Kirra initiated a fundraising drive via backabuddy to assist jockeys who suffered financial hardship, in the absence of local racing.
Kirra was interviewed on the Locked & Loaded Show.
Backabuddy is the platform for the Save Our Jocks Campaign.
