Singapore Double for Sale Graduates

It was a Singapore double for Bloodstock South Africa graduates this past weekend, 20th April.

The quick double once again highlighted the tremendous value for money that can be found in South Africa, and both winners (both of whom were sold at past National Yearling Sales) look more than capable of winning more races overseas.

The first leg of the BSA double came when the Kahal gelding Coronet Peak won an open benchmark 83 handicap over1200m in convincing style. Now a five time winner, Coronet Peak put 1.5 lengths between himself and runner up One Smart Cat.

The 6yo gelding is owned by Lady Luck No 2 Stable, and is trained by David Hill. Coronet Peak, who has won or placed in all 16 of his Singapore outings, was bred by the Somerset Stud.
A R500 000 buy at the 2009 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, Coronet Peak is out of winning Gallic League mare, Clair Anne.

His sire, the ever reliable Kahal, is well represented at this week’s National Sale. His 26 strong draft includes a half-brother to US Gr1 winner Gypsy’s Warning (Lot 333), a colt out of champion Legally Blonde (Lot 400) and a full-brother to Emerald Cup winner The Mousketeer (Lot 412).

The second South African bred to salute in Singapore this past Easter weekend was Agenais.  The Cheveley Stud bred gelding scored a game win in the Itmaybeyou 2006 stakes Kranji Stakes D at Kranji on Sunday. In scoring a neck victory in this 1200m contest, Agenais took his Singapore tally to four wins. The son of Tamburlaine (an own brother to smart Gr2 winner Mike’s Choice) has also been placed a further seven times, and he too is owned by Lady Luck No 2 Stable, and is trained by David Hill.

Out of the very successful broodmare Jukao (dam also of G1 sprinter Maelstrom), Agenais was a R250 000 buy at the 2009 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The 2014 Emperors Palace National Sale, set to get underway on Sunday, gives buyers yet another excellent opportunity to acquire world-class thoroughbreds.
