California Eagle

California Eagle brings up a winning treble for Joao Moreira – Singapore Racing

With Joao Moreira officially riding in Hong Kong from Sunday, some of the other jockeys in Singapore get a chance on some nice horses that normally have the Brazilian Ace steering. The likely beneficiaries will be the likes of fellow Brazilian Manoel Nunes, experienced Australian’s Corey Brown and Danny Beasley and perhaps even the south African heavyweight hoop, Bernard Fayd’Herbe. Case in point is a nice ride for Dan Beasley on CALIFORNIA EAGLE in race 8; a Class 3 Polytrack sprint over 1000m. The American 3YO-colt has had Moreira for all three of his wins and indeed nine of his 10 career starts. Back on the Poly over 1000m – his only winning surface and trip – CALIFORNIA EAGLE must be a huge show to get back into the winners circle and give Beasley one of the 200 or so winners a year now up for grabs in the post-Moreira era. The race is a beauty through, with SUPER KENNY hard to beat after his terrific first-up win and the likes of SECRET MISSION, SUPER GOOD and SAND LANE all having serious winning chances. Elsewhere on the card, SAVAGE STORM looks very well-placed in the Graduation event over 1100m (race 6). The 3YO was impressive winning at just his second race start when blinkers went on and looks a horse to follow with 50kg at the race conditions looking a winning weight.

Race 1

Selections; 5 DREAMMAKER – 7 HOST THE NATION – 1 CAN’T TOUCH ME – 4 DRAGON PLAYER
A Class 5 over a mile kicks off the all-polytrack programme. DREAMMAKER is still a maiden but has been placed three from six on the poly. He often finds trouble but ran on well last outing and is suited at 1600m. From the nice gate Alan Munro should have him just off the speed and run home strongly. HOST THE NATION is another maiden but has been improving at each run. He was held up last outing and with a clear run could have won. Manoel Nunes steers and he should be right in the finish. DRAGON PLAYER also ran home nicely last outing and his form prior to that was solid. His only win was at a mile on turf but he does handle the poly and whilst SH Lee rarely troubles the scorer, he gets a chance to break through here. The blinkers come off REDDY TO ROCK who found 1100m too short last start. His only win was at a mile and with Harry Kassim’s claim he should race well. CAN’T TOUCH ME was a solid 4th three starts back over this trip in Class 4; he is generally better on turf but has won on polytrack and with the top heavyweight rider Bernard Fayd’Herbe up will be carrying no dead weight. Amongst the others REAL GOODMAN is not the most reliable but could show up and MAX RESOURCE is usually there battling away.

1 CAN’T TOUCH ME *** Solid 4th three starts back this trip in Class 4. Generally better on turf but has won on polytrack and has top heavyweight rider. 6.50
2 SKY STORM ** Appreciates drop to Class 5 but tested at the trip. 20
3 THE GIANT * Only win was at 1600m on turf in NZ. Now in Class 5 but has done little since arriving in Singapore. 33
4 DRAGON PLAYER *** Ran home nicely last outing and form prior to that was solid. Only win was at a mile on turf but handles the poly and should race well. 5.00
5 DREAMMAKER *** Often finds trouble but ran on well last outing. Still a maiden but has been placed three from six on the poly. Suited at 1600m and from the nice gate should be just off the speed. 5.00
6 MAX RESOURCE ** Never far away and mile suits. Should be in a forward position all the way but wide draw is a concern. 8.00
7 HOST THE NATION *** Twelve start maiden but has been improving at each run. Held up last outing and with a clear run could have won. Should be in the mix again. 5.00
8 REGAL SALUTE * Yet to place in 10 outings. Beaten a long way at first 1600m attempt last time and would need to improve. 33
9 A’S VICTORIOUS ** Raced wide last start and knocked up. Only placing was at previous start over this trip. Nicely drawn and could be handy for a long way. 20
10 HEAR ME ** 9YO who has always found a mile a bit too far but can include in exotics. 33
11 REAL GOODMAN ** Won this trip two starts back and drops 1.5kg. Not the most reliable but could give a bold sight. 12
12 REDDY TO ROCK *** Blinkers off. Found 1100m too short last start but previous form good. Only win was at a mile and well in with the claim. 7.00

Race 2

Selections; 6 BORDEAUX – 3 ARROWHEAD – 9 HAPPY MONEY – 10 MAGIC TO WIN
A Restricted Maiden over 1000m with three first starters, all of whom have trialed well. As always, watch the market is the mantra in these. ARROWHEAD has looked smart at the trials when ridden by Corey Brown, who stays on for the debut. A Michael Freedman runner, he is bound to race well. Laurie Laxon is unveiling BORDEAUX who is a halfbrother to the smart PRECISELY. With Barend Vorster up from a good gate he should race well. Of those we have seen, HAPPY MONEY put in a nice effort on debut where he showed speed and went forward; down 4kg he should race well for Oscar Chavez despite the wide draw. MAGIC TO WIN also debuted well where he showed speed, Nunes stays on, he is up 2kg but should put in a good effort despite the wide alley. The blinkers go on BLUE SWEDE who was slowly away last outing over 1200m on turf and raced greenly. He ran on strongly and if he has learnt from the experience could well be powering home again. GOOD SCORE has the experience; he is speedy and usually around the mark, he has been getting run down so the 1000m should suit. DARK EXPRESS – who had support on debut – and ASTROHEAT could show up in an open race.

1 GOOD SCORE *** Placed twice in 12 starts but never far away. Will be on the speed and 1000m will suit. 5.00
2 CALIFORNIA SUN ** Fair efforts at only two starts and trialed solidly recently. Ace and claim should help. 16
3 ARROWHEAD *** Blinkers on. Has looked useful at the trials and Corey Brown stays on. Look for a good debut. 5.00
4 ASTROHEAT * Trials OK and could show up on debut. Watch market. 20
5 BLUE SWEDE ** Blinkers on. Slowly away last outing over 1200m on turf and ran on strongly. Very green last outing and should be significantly improved. 8.00
6 BORDEAUX *** Trials well. Half brother to PRECISELY. Should race well on debut. 7.50
7 DARK EXPRESS *** Blinker, pacifiers off, tongue tie on. Failed on debut with support but recent trial was strong. Improvement expected. 8.00
8 EASY WINNER * Needs to improve. 50
9 HAPPY MONEY *** Nice effort on debut where he showed speed and went forward. Down 4kg and should race well despite wide draw. 5.00
10 MAGIC TO WIN *** Strong debut where he showed speed. Nunes stays on, up 2kg but should race well despite wide alley. 6.00
11 MIDNIGHT * Not done enough as yet. 50

Race 3

Selections; 2 DAAD’S THE WAY – 7 TAKIS – 6 BEAUTIFUL WORLD – 1 CALIFORNIAN JET
A Class 4 over 1600m on the polytrack and the Bruce Marsh trained DAAD’S THE WAY looks well-placed. He is a proven performer at this trip and in this class having won five times at a mile; his recent form is solid and with Corey Brown up from the ace he should get the gun run. TAKIS put in a good effort on turf last start to place; he is better on poly and loves 1600m; with Vorster to steer he has a strong chance. Both AMERICAN VISION and BEAUTIFUL WORLD are suited at this journey; they should go forward, set a speed and be hard to run down. This could suit CALIFORNIAN JET who is down in grade but has a big weight; whilst he has won at the mile he has previously shown no liking for the poly. FUJIN BRIGHT’s last effort was poor but his previous form was sound and the mile suits.

1 CALIFORNIAN JET ** Drops in grade; up in weight and distance. Has won at the trip but prefers turf. 7.50
2 DAAD’S THE WAY *** Five-time winner at this journey. Recent efforts solid and will be hard to hold out. 3.50
3 SPRING THUNDER ** Useful type but best efforts have been on turf. On trial at the mile. 7.50
4 FUJIN BRIGHT ** Poor run last start but previous two efforts good. Take on trust. 10
5 AMERICAN VISION ** Held on to dead-heat over 1700m in BM53 last start. This is tougher but should give a bold sight from the draw. 7.50
6 BEAUTIFUL WORLD *** Will appreciate being back on polytrack. Has won twice at the mile and could give a bold sight from the good gate. 5.00
7 TAKIS *** Good effort on turf last start. Better on poly and this is his trip. Strong chance with Vorster to steer. 4.00
8 CHINA EAGLE * Happier in Class 5. 25
9 RECIPROCATE * Trip/track suits but prefer in Class. 50

.

Race 4

Selections; 8 STING – 9 BLUE DIAMOND – 5 FUTURE SHOW – 1 STORMY ALONG
Another very open Initiation over 1200m. STING ran on very well last outing, his previous poly effort over 1200m was also strong and if Lisa Allpress can give him a positive ride, he should be right in the finish. The un-raced BLUE DIAMOND looks a likely type from the trials. Dan Beasley usually gets them away well from the wide gate and he should debut well; watch for support. The blinkers go on FUTURE SHOW; he failed on the turf last time (although the saddle did slip) but his debut effort on poly was good and from the ace with John Powell up he should be prominent throughout. STORMY ALONG can be his own worst enemy but does have ability, he trialed well for Manoel Nunes recently and having him aboard will help. Of the others GANGNAM STYLE has speed, HIDDEN VENTURE should be improved and ESCALADE PEAK could show up.

1 STORMY ALONG *** Has been thereabouts but can be his own worst enemy. Trialed well for Nunes recently and having him aboard will help. 4.00
2 ESCALADE PEAK ** Fair effort on turf two starts back. Other efforts only average but from the good draw should be handy. 12
3 BLACK SORCERER * Resumed with poor effort. First start on poly. 33
4 GANGNAM STYLE ** Used up last start and faded. Nicely drawn and should be prominent for a long way. 14
5 FUTURE SHOW *** Blinkers on. Excuses last start (saddle) but debut effort on poly was strong and from the good gate should be prominent throughout. 5.50
6 LUTONG GARDEN * Did not show up at trials and prefer to see. 33
7 WINDSOR KNOT * Well beaten last start and needs to improve. 25
8 STING *** Ran on very well last outing. Previous poly effort over 1200m was strong and will benefit from a more positive ride. 4.00
9 BLUE DIAMOND *** Looks a likely type from the trials. Watch for support. 4.50
10 DIVA’S BROTHER * Not yet. 25
11 HIDDEN VENTURE ** Solid effort on debut and should improve further. 12
12 ZORRO * Not shown up at trials and bred for longer. 50
13 STYLISH LAD * No. 50
14 LAM EDITION * No. 50

Race 5

Selections; 5 SHINKANSEN – 1 DOUBLE S – 3 FUKU’S PET – 8 ALWAYS A WINNER
A Class 5 for the Claiming riders over 1100m and a few gnarled veterans could fight this out. SHINKANSEN goes fast, likes this grade, distance and surface; with the ace and Harry Kassim up, he will give a lot of cheek and be hard to run down. The stablemate DOUBLE S is also well suited in this Class; he has won twice at 1100m and will be coming from off the speed. FUKU’S PET is consistent in this grade and always goes well for SB Ng; he will sit close to the speed and finish off well. Of the others ALWAYS A WINNER is poorly drawn but has some toe and was not far away at his last couple of runs; his only win at 1100m and with Tengku Rehaizat up will give a sight. MAGICAL SUNSET is down in grade but his tardy starts can be very costly.

1 DOUBLE S *** Always dangerous in this company and will be running on late. Won twice at this trip and will find this easier than KSD last time. 5.00
2 FISCAL WINGS ** Fought on last start. Suited this Class and distance. Best form is on turf. 12
3 FUKU’S PET *** Consistent in this grade and always goes well for this 4kg claimer. Good chance. 3.00
4 MAGICAL SUNSET ** Down in grade and won only start this Class. Often very tardy at the gates but can run on well. Take on trust. 20
5 SHINKANSEN *** Goes fast, likes this grade, distance and surface. Perfectly drawn with top rider. Will give a lot of cheek. 3.00
6 ECLAIR DESIRE * Resuming. Previous form poor and drawn wide. 25
7 TRIPLE A PLUS * Blinkers off but will need more than that. 50
8 ALWAYS A WINNER *** Poorly drawn but has some toe and not far away at last couple of runs. Only win was at 1100m and will give a sight. 8.00
9 MY SACRIFICE ** Did nothing first up on turf. May improve on the poly. 25
10 FANTASTIC BOY * Only win was this journey but needs to improve on last two outings. 25
11 CONQUEROR * Led and faded on resumption from a long spell. Has won at the trip but that was 18 months ago. 50
12 GOODVOLLEYMSMOLLY * Shocker. 100
13 DEMAND * Unlikely. 33
14 MAHA VEERAN * Recent form ordinary. 33

.

Race 6

Selections; 7 SAVAGE STORM – 2 ITALIAN JOB – 1 ECLAIR SENSATION – 8 SUPER SIX
Not an overly strong Graduation field with SAVAGE STORM looking hard to beat at the race conditions. The 3YO only has 50kg to carry and given he is coming off an impressive win when blinkers were added at his second career start, he should really win this. His main opposition is another last start winner in ITALIAN JOB. The two-time winner has 56.5kg to carry at the conditions but will be more than competitive with Jose Verenzuela to steer after what was a solid first-up win. ECLAIR SENSATION is also a last start winner and keeps the two 3YO’s honest although the 58kg might make winning tough. Of the rest, SUPER SIX appreciates 50kg and could run a cheeky race and WAR LORD is always thereabouts so a must for exotics. The improver is PISSED TILL DAWN who very much appreciates blinkers so keep one eye on the market.

1 ECLAIR SENSATION ** This is tougher than last start win but certainly worth some thought at the conditions. 5.00
2 ITALIAN JOB *** Resumed with good win and well weighted to go close here. 2.50
3 WAR LORD ** Thereabouts as a rule and can include in exotics. 20
4 SILVER FLY * Not the worst but eligible for easier company. 33
5 BIG HEART * Hit the line well on debut but like to see in a maiden. 33
6 PISTOL DAWN * Improves with blinkers added but might find a couple too slick here. 33
7 SAVAGE STORM *** Won very well with blinkers added last start and weighted to win this. 1.90
8 SUPER SIX * Best exposed form on turf but could run a cheeky race with light weight. 33

.

Race 7

Selections; 8 RICH BORN – 1 THREE KINGS – 7 TRIPLE GOALS – 6 VANQUISH
Races don’t get much uglier than this division 2 Class 5 mile. So much so that a horse beaten by some 16 lengths at his last start – THREE KINGS – could win. In his favour is the fact he finally finds himself over the right trip in a suitable Class. His last six or so starts in this company have been over unsuitable sprint trips and given two out of his last three runs have been in strong company, he should improve lengths here. But the safer bet (if there is one in this race) is RICH BORN. Nunes won on him the last time he was on him – also over the mile – and if anywhere near his best, he could lead and be very hard to pass. Of the others who have form in races like this, TRIPLE GOALS and VANQUISH should be involved somewhere in the finish with the moody DRAMA SUPERSTAR and GYPSY KING for Oscar Chavez, also worth some thought.

1 THREE KINGS *** Form reads only fair but finds himself in the right Class over the right trip. Goes close. 5.50
2 DRAMA SUPERSTAR ** Starts can be costly but watch for support as goes OK on her day. 8.00
3 GOOD SUGGESTION * Hard to have. 100
4 SOARING WIN * Might appreciate trip but prefer most others. 100
5 GYPSY STAR ** Drawn badly but race suits and could show up late. 6.00
6 VANQUISH ** Appreciates being back on the Poly and worth some thought. 10
7 TRIPLE GOALS *** Disappointing two start back but form around that has him winning again soon. 4.00
8 RICH BORN *** Gets a few favours from gate three and in this a long way. 3.50
9 SOCIAL NETWORK ** Appreciates first up run and can include in exotics at value. 10
10 SUDDEN INTEREST ** Battles away on a good day and another that can be included somewhere. 20
11 ROLLTHEDICE * Downgraded to winkers but has been disappointing. 100

.

Race 8

Selections; 7 SUPER KENNY – 6 CALIFORNIA EAGLE – 2 SECRET MISSION – 5 SUPER GOOD
This race has depth so while happy to have SUPER KENNY as the on-top selection, plenty of others can win without surprising. SECRET MISSION, SUPER GOOD, CALIFORNIA EAGLE and SAND LANE all come under consideration and you could make a winning case for all. CALIFORNIA EAGLE is back on his winning surface after a solid placing on the turf and given he jumps from gate one, he must go close for his new hoop, Dan Beasley. SECRET MISSION also loves the Poly and his recent trial suggests he can go one better than he did last start. SUPER GOOD is consistent and must be respected while SAND LANE definitely appreciates the better gate for Corey Brown. But they all have to beat SUPER KENNY who resumed with a very good win after doing it tough throughout and given he showed he has trained on well since that effort with a good trial, he could be hard to beat.

1 LAGO BAY ** Coming off an ordinary run for new trainer but goes close if near his best. 20
2 SECRET MISSION *** Showed last start why the Poly is his caper and can win with good recent trial under his belt. 6.00
3 SOUTHERN BOSS ** Form better than it reads and capable of a cheeky race. 20
4 FIGHTER JET * Erratic form makes him hard to follow. 50
5 SUPER GOOD *** Always going to be a serious winning hope in races like this. Goes close. 5.00
6 CALIFORNIA EAGLE *** In form and very much appreciates switch back to the Poly. 4.50
7 SUPER KENNY *** Resumed with very good win and recent trial suggests he is hard to beat again. 3.00
8 GOLIATH * Appreciates first-up run but should need longer than this. 33
9 MACHFIVE * Needs to lift on recent form. 100
10 SAND LANE *** Has been doing it tough form bad gates of late and goes close with luck in running. 6.00
11 TRAVERTINE * Not for me. 200
12 GOLDEN RABBIT ** Likes the Poly and worth thought in exotics at value. 20

.

Race 9

Selections; 3 MOVIE GOER – 4 PACINO – 7 FUNCA – 10 WHAT’S DAT
Nothing jumps off the page in the lucky last and it might be a case of following a couple of solid each-way Laurie Laxon specials in MOVIE GOER and PACINO. Both horses are in form and will win again soon with not much separating the pair. MOVIE GOER gets Corey Brown from gate 6 and should have no excuses with the overdue PACINO getting the top claimer in Harry Kassim from gate two. FUNCA is also overdue for a win in Singapore (understatement) and blinkers added might see the former Argentinean show his best and a win would not surprise. Of the rest, WHAT’S DAT looks a good winning hope with the topweight, CAIYAYA, looking a nice value pick. CORONET PEAK – aiming for three wins on the trot – picks himself in what is a very open race.

1 CAIYAYA *** Last start a lot better than the result given tough run so pay to keep safe. 25
2 CORONET PEAK *** Backed up maiden win with another victory this Class and have to follow. 5.00
3 MOVIE GOER *** In very good form and right in this finish. 4.00
4 PACINO *** Overdue for a win in this company and always an each-way show. 6.00
5 POTLUCK ** Blinkers off after good first-up un. Exotics. 10
6 XIN TREASURE * Not a lot last start and easier to leave out with winkers off. 33
7 FUNCA *** Overdue for a win and blinkers on first-time might do the trick. 6.00
8 GOOD BUDDY ** Placed at odds last start but needs to be at his very best from wide gate. 12
9 TWO M AND M ** Appreciates Singapore debut and recent trial with blinkers suggests likely improvement. 20
10 WHAT’S DAT *** Very good first-up run has him under notice in what is a suitable race. 6.00
11 OUR FRIENDLY DIVA ** Last run a lot better than the result but bad gate makes this tough. 33
12 DYNASTY KNIGHT * Blinkers/tongue-tie off but prefer on turf. 50
13 ARAPUNI * Struggling of late. 100
14 MINAH CURRENT * Better than what she has showed of late but needs easier. 200
