Singapore Racing – Sunday

Corey Brown guides Desert Fox to a debut victory – Singapore Racing 07-06-13

With the Group 1 Patron’s Bowl run earlier in the day, some solid races close the meeting on Sunday including a tricky Novice event over 1200m on the turf (race 11). At the race conditions, the only 2YO in the field, DESERT FOX, looks well placed to register back-to-back wins and with Corey Brown taking the ride on the minimum, the stable must be confident. Two other last start winners – LUCKY COME and TOMORROWS DREAM – also line up in the SGD $65,000 race with the former coming off a very dominate maiden win. At the conditions, LUCKY COME – a 4YO – was allocated as the top-weight but with his winning hoop, Willy Tan, claiming 3kg, he looks very well-placed to winand looks the biggest danger to DESERT FOX. Elsewhere on the card, an up-and-coming 3YO in YIN JIE, can show he has what it takes to go through the grades when he lines up in what looks a solid Class 4 event over 1400m (race 12). The NZ-bred gelding has looked in excellent form at two starts since returning to the track with blinkers added and can go on with the job on Sunday.

Best Bets; YIN JIE (race 12, win), THEBUZZDOWNUNDER (race 10, each-way) and DRAGON KING (race 11, value).

Race 8

Selections; 2 SUPER VELOX – 4 WEOWNA FLYER – 9 CONQUEST – 5 WIN THE DAY
Hard to be confident in a race like this especially when our top two picks – SUPER VELOX and WEOWNA FLYER – are both maidens and have only one placing on the turf between them. But the race lacks good form and bar the surprise last start winner, WIN THE DAY, this is a race a maiden can win. SUPER VELOX goes well enough for Oscar Chavez to think he goes close. The experienced hoop has had three placings from as many rides on the 28 starts maiden and must be some hope. WEOWNA FLYER did it tough last start and the run good enough to follow as he does look due. Headgear removed might be neither here not there but if he transfers his Poly form onto the turf, he is in the mix. Joao Moreira on DRUMSARA has that pair under notice (but a big show they will be unders and that is not good in this type of race) and CONQUEST and WIN THE DAY should also run well. Tough race – do your very best.

1 DRUMSARA *** Form reads only fair but maiden win over this trip/surface so look for improvement. 3.50
2 SUPER VELOX *** Twenty-eight start maiden but form OK and might surprise at a rare turf run. 8.00
3 MY FIELD ** Will be working into this late and can include in exotics. 12
4 WEOWNA FLYER *** Another maiden in-form but rarely seen on the turf; did it tough last start so keep safe with head-gear removed. 4.20
5 WIN THE DAY *** Broke overdue maiden status last start over 1100m but can step up; follow. 7.00
6 LUCKY SUN ** Veteran who keeps on going on; exotics. 20
7 PRINCESS JANNA ** Another long-term maiden who is usually around the place; exotics with winkers off. 20
8 GOOD DREAM * No. 100
9 CONQUEST *** Had support and ran accordingly last start over this trip; recent good form on the Poly a concern. 3.50
10 NEWFOUNDFAME * No. 100
11 FOXY KID * Very hard to have. 100
12 ROLLTHEDICE * Like to see more before considering. 100

Race 9

Selections; 9 OM – 2 TOM – 4 CHINESE CULTURE – 7 SPYDER
This race looks a cracker with some solid Class 3 horses looking for a result and an up-and-coming smart type in OM, looking to show he is the real deal. We think OM is the real deal and happy to think he can win again with no weight and winning hoop, Joao Moreira, on-board. With a celebrated half-brother setting the bar high, OM looked disappointing early in his career but realistically the 3YO was green enough to think he needed time and two wins from his last three starts suggests he has a better grip on the racing caper. But he will need to be good, as the likes of TOM, CHINESE CULTURE, SPYDER and KLEVER MAN can all win in what is a very open and tough race. Of those mentioned, TOM is going better than his form suggests and worth a serious each-way look – hopefully at nice odds.

1 FULL TOSS ** Resuming but goes well fresh so pay to respect. 12
2 TOM *** Form better than it reads and this looks suitable to knock in a win; keep safe. 5.00
3 WHITE COFFEE ** Thereabouts as a rule and keeps a few honest. 12
4 CHINESE CULTURE *** Back to 1400m looks a good move and right in this. 8.00
5 KLEVER MAN *** Led and not beaten a long way last start similar affair; in this a long way. 6.00
6 CALIFORNIAN JET ** Appreciates first run in Singapore and look for improvement. 33
7 SPYDER *** Very consistent and has to be some show with no weight from good gate. 5.00
8 ROUGH DAY ** This is as tough as he wants it but exotic hope on best form. 20
9 OM *** Up in Class after strong Class 4 win; follow as looks the goods. 2.80

Race 10

Selections; 7 THEBUZZDOWNUNDER – 8 HASTA LA VISTA – 12 CAUTION – 1 STANZOUT
This race has depth and in all likely-hood the favourite and another couple of the more fancied runners don’t figure in the selections. DARK PULSE – with Moreira a factor – might start favourite and while he should go OK and win without surprising anyone, others make more appeal. The two Pat Shaw runners – DREAM ON resuming and the front-running SUPER VICTORY – have also been left out of selections but you can’t pick them all. Of those that made the final cut, THEBUZZDOWNUNDER looks a big winning show. The 3YO has shown more than enough since his maiden win three runs back to think he wins soon and this race – albeit tough – looks perfect. HASTA LA VISTA is another that should go very well. Also a 3YO, HASTA LA VISTA backed up a solid debut with a nice win and will win again in Class 4 sooner than later, baby. CAUTION took an age to break his maiden status but has gone on with the job and might be good each-way value. Also value is the top weight, STANZOUT, and he too could win without surprising at OK odds.

1 STANZOUT *** Excuses not to finish closer last start in solid company; each-way in this field. 16
2 DREAM ON *** Resuming but doesn’t run many bad ones and right in this. 6.00
3 OTHELLO * Needs to lift on recent form. 100
4 PROFOUND * Questionable form on the turf and happy to ignore. 16
5 LORD ROBERTO * Struggled since good win four starts back so have to take on trust. 12
6 SUPER VICTORY *** Leads and in this a very long way; respect. 12
7 THEBUZZDOWNUNDER *** Backed up Maiden win with two very solid runs; big show stepping up to the mile. 8.00
8 HASTA LA VISTA *** Backed up good race debut with a nice win; mile suits and pay to follow. 4.50
9 SPLICE *** Excuses last start and pay to keep safe at odds on good debut win. 20
10 DARK PULSE *** Maiden placed at two Singapore starts and should appreciate the mile. 3.50
11 EISENHEIM ** Looks to be improving with racing may pay t start following. 20
12 CAUTION *** Won two of past three and looks a solid each-way hope. 12
13 JACKPOT * Needs easier. 100
14 IRO OTOKO * Recent trial OK but race form shocking. 100

Race 11

Selections; 11 DESERT FOX – 1 LUCKY COME – 9 DRAGON KING – 2 GREAT WISE
Plenty of winning hopes in this Novice but at the race conditions the only 2YO in the field, DESERT FOX, might prove hard to beat. A winner at his only race start, DESERT FOX looks very well weighted with just 50kg (plus plus) and hopefully can improve with the run and win under his belt and beat the older horses. But a smart 3kg claim for the top-weight certainly has LUCKY COME in the mix. Willy Tan retains the mount on the 4YO and given he is coming off a commanding maiden win, he must be respected. While GREAT WISE looks due and STREET CAT is worth a look first up, DRAGON KING might be the value. The 3YO looks to have ability and just needs to get his act together to show his best.

1 LUCKY COME *** Broke maiden status in fine style and looks a leading show here with handy 3kg claim. 3.50
2 GREAT WISE *** Did it tough enough last start for close-up placing to think he wins very soon; follow. 4.50
3 BOURBON GOLDMAN ** Last start OK at long odds and will add value to exotics. 50
4 PURE TACTICS ** Beaten a long way into second at his last start and excuses for only bad run so pay to keep safe. 12
5 FAST FAST BOY ** Got it all wrong first up from a spell but certainly appreciates gate one and worth another look. 20
6 STREET CAT *** Resuming after blowing the start and have respiratory issues last start; goes OK but take on trust. 6.50
7 TOMORROWS DREAMS ** Broke through for maiden win last start and will be competitive in this company. 12
8 RICHWEST * Needs to show more than he has of late. 100
9 DRAGON KING *** Last run better than the result and could surprise at odds. 20
10 CHEETAH * Hopeless at the conditions. 100
11 DESERT FOX *** Won well on debut and in best at the race conditions; can win. 3.00

Race 12

Selections; 3 YIN JIE – 8 GREEN JACKET – 5 DISCO – 4 GUIDED LIGHT
Promising 3YO, YIN JIE, can hopefully continue his winning ways and send punters home happy. A winner of two from seven, the NZ-bred gelding has also placed another three times with excuses for his only two unplaced runs. Blinkers added at his two starts this campaign have looked a good move and happy to think he is ready to step up to 1400m. GREEN JACKET looks ready to win. Although only winning once from 16 starts, the American-bred 5YO showed more than enough fresh over 1200m to think he goes very close over what looks an ideal trip. DISCO and GUIDED LIGHT are both well and truly in contention and it will pay to keep an eye on ULTIMATE WARRIOR and AFFIRMATION at odds.

1 FARRAND ** Form reads badly (very) but a significant drop in Class has him under notice. 20
2 AFFIRMATION *** Lame last start and disappointing two back; should win this grade but running out of chances. 20
3 YIN JIE *** Two runs this campaign with blinkers very good and looks a big show here. 3.20
4 GUIDED LIGHT *** Showed last start he is ready to win again and must be some hope with tongue-tie off and 3kg claimer on. 8.00
5 DISCO *** Looked to have every chance last start similar affair; wins soon. 2.50
6 ULTIMATE WARRIOR *** Suited Class, form OK and worth noting only win in Singapore over this trip. 16
7 BIGCAT RHAPSODY * Later. 100
8 GREEN JACKET *** Last start over 1200m very good late and this trip suits; big winning show. 6.00
9 HEAR ME ** Form better than it reads and the type that can show up at odds. 33
10 MAGICAL SUNSET ** Showed last start he is competitive in a race like this with no weight; exotics with winkers off. 33
11 LUCKY TWENTY TWO * Upgrade to blinkers but prefer others. 100 12 CASINO KING * Not the worst but love to see in Class 5. 20
