Singapore Racing – Sunday

Sunday 8 February

One Rar wins in Singapore on 13-06-14

Some excellent racing on Sunday and while only a small field will head to the start for race 9, the Open Stakes mile looks an even affair and a tough one for punters.

ONE RAR showed last start he is more than just a “one trick pony” when, after knocking in six career wins exclusively on the Polytrack, he bolted in resuming on the turf over 1400m. That win was impressive and given the small field over a mile, he should het every chance to continue his winning run.

Down in the weights, THUMPING also looks extremely well-placed to show her best. The American-bred mare will be tested by the company but with a postage stamp weight to carry, she might be hard to run down with Harry Kassim on-board.

At the opposite end of the weights, FLAX provides the class and has a super first-up record so could easily show up fresh over the mile and TRUDEAU would have very much appreciated a solid run over 1400m and expect him to figure heavily in this finish.

Elsewhere on the card, ZAC COMMAND looks to have a strong winning hope in race 8 after being unlucky not to win in a similar affair at his last start and OLYMPIC ANTHEM will be well thought of in race 10 after winning very well at his Singapore debut.

Best Bets; (ZAC COMMAND race 8, win), (PERFECT CHALLENGER race 11, eachway) and (OLYMPIC ANTHEN and ASPEN race 10, forecast).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 3 and 4), race 9 (1, 2, 4 and 7), race 10 (1, 5 and 7), race 11 (1, 2, 6, 7 and 8).

Race 8

Selections; 4 ZAC COMMAND – 3 SECRET LIBERTY – 1 SOON YI – 2 TIM
A KSD over 1200m will give SECRET LIBERTY her chance. She is a very speedy mare and with the claim for Syafiq from the good gate, should be hard to run down. However, ZAC COMMAND goes well at this trip and Manoel Nunes should give him every chance. He went ever so close to making it back-to-back last start and he figures late. SOON YI has only won three times from 40 starts but regularly places and can be expected to be in the finish once again. TIM had a rare run on turf last start and did well enough to suggest he could show up in this. Nearly all the others are polytrackers though BINGO always has the capability of surprise.

1 SOON YI *** Runs on but rarely wins. Will be in the finish. 4.00
2 TIM ** Had a rare turf run last start. Speedy and will be handy throughout in this company. 5.00
3 SECRET LIBERTY *** Has pace and will be hard to run down with 4kg claim. 3.00
4 ZAC COMMAND *** Excuses to just missed last start similar affair and should race well again. 4.00
5 GOOD LOOUKEN * Only success had been on poly. Form poor. 33
6 BINGO ** Far from reliable but can surprise. 10
7 EXCITING PROSPECT * Needs easier than this. 33
8 LIVE IN HOPE * Appreciates turf but better in Class 5. 25
9 LUCKY COME * Thereabouts as a rule but needs easier and Poly. 33
10 SMART MOVE * No. 50
11 LIVE WELL * Class 5. 50

Race 9

Selections; 4 ONE RAR – 7 THUMPING – 1 FLAX – 2 TRUDEAU
A small but competitive Open Stakes field go over the mile. ONE RAR resumed with strong effort – which was a bit of a surprise given his winning form had been on the Poly – and he will be hard to beat once again. THUMPING is an honest mare and the mile suits as does her light weight, so she comes under notice. FLAX is resuming and goes well fresh so look for a big run from this game horse. Improvement can be expected from TRUDEAU who will have derived benefit from his first-up run and Michael Rodd stays aboard.

1 FLAX *** Resuming. Top galloper with an excellent first-up record. Will be running on late. 5.00
2 TRUDEAU *** Should be improved by recent outing. Will be running on well. 3.00
3 SPEEDY CAT ** Has not won for a long time and never beyond 1400m. Nunes may help. 14
4 ONE RAR *** Ran on strongly to win when resuming. Even better suited here and should be hard to beat again. 2.50
5 MARTIN * Recent form ordinary. 25
6 SPRING THUNDER * Tested at this level. 33
7 THUMPING *** Honest mare who likes this trip. Will be in the finish with no weight. 4.50

Race 10

Selections; 5 OLYMPIC ANTHEM – 7 ASPEN – 1 GOOD NEWS – 3 IDEAL GUIDE
A KSC over 1400m and OLYMPIC ANTHEM looks one to follow. The 4YO was a pretty handy horse in Queensland where he won three times on the turf and after a strong Singapore debut win on the poly, this looks much more suitable. In that race he beat GOOD NEWS who has only raced three times on turf for one placing and never beyond 1200m; he was dominant in this grade on the poly last start but this will be a different test. ASPEN could be one to watch. The 4YO looked a good thing beaten last start and will keep the favourite honest here with Nunes staying on-board. IDEAL GUIDE is resuming after his attempt at the Singapore Gold Cup, he has won three times at the trip and could show up fresh. GOLD DANCER is suited at the trip and can make his presence felt. Laurie Laxon’s pair NEW YORK CITY and ALFONSO could race well fresh.

1 GOOD NEWS *** Tested at both distance and surface but in outstanding form. Should race well. 6.00
2 MUSKETEER * Did nothing when resuming and may want longer. 25
3 IDEAL GUIDE ** Resuming. Has won three times at the trip and could show up fresh. 8.00
4 FATKID * Only wins have been at a mile or longer. Tested here. 33
5 OLYMPIC ANTHEM *** Pacifiers on. Won well at Singapore debut and better suited here. Hard to beat. 4.00
6 ALFONSO ** Resuming. Has won twice at this trip and another Laxon horse that could show up. 12
7 ASPEN *** Looked a good thing beaten last start and likes this trip. Huge show. 6.00
8 NEW YORK CITY ** Resuming. Showed plenty of promise last preparation and could race well fresh with best work expected late. 12
9 CLUTHA LAD * Ran well when resuming on turf but best form is on poly. 20
10 GOLD DANCER ** Suited this distance and will be improved by recent outing. Could surprise. 12
11 LIKA TIGER ** Was beaten by Olympic Anthem when they met in Queensland. Expect the same again. 10
12 WAR LORD ** Versatile galloper who could show up with the light weight. Keep safe. 8.00

Race 11

Selections; 6 PERFECT CHALLENGER – 7 DRAGON – 2 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON – 1 SCIENCE FICTION
A Class 4 over 1400m closes the programme. PERFECT CHALLENGER finds himself in Class 4 and will improve at this journey on turf. Oscar Chavez stays on and he really should race well in this company. DRAGON ran on very well when resuming on the poly, his best form is at a mile but 1400m whilst fresh should be no problem. The Cliff Brown-trained JUST NAME IT also enjoys the 1400m and is suited in this grade. He has two other chances with INTENSE GOLD who is trialling well and ZAC SEDUCTION who has also won at the trip. SCIENCE FICTION and HE’S A STRIKER coming back to a more suitable trip can also be expected to race well. The interesting runner is SQUIRE OSBALDESTON trained by Stephen Gray and to be ridden by Corey Brown, he placed at listed level in the UK and won twice on the all-weather at 2000m; his trials have been impressive and he could show up fresh.

1 SCIENCE FICTION *** Up in grade after strong Poly win but suited this trip. Should race well. 10
2 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON *** Trialling well. Placed at listed level in UK but form is on poly over longer. Watch for support. 7.00
3 YES BABA * Battled on when resuming in higher class. Has won this trip but best form is on poly over a mile. 25
4 BORDEAUX ** Consistent but only wins are on poly. 20
5 HE’S A STRIKER ** Dropping back in trip but in-form and should be running on. 12
6 PERFECT CHALLENGER *** Can find trouble but suited this journey and should be running on in what is suitable company. 12
7 DRAGON *** Ran on well when resuming. Wins have been at a mile but should be finishing strongly. 5.00
8 JUST NAME IT *** Likes this trip and will be right in the finish. 5.00
9 INTENSE GOLD ** Resuming. Trialling well and likes 1400m. Will have to go forward from the gate. 8.00
10 KLEVER WARRIOR ** Strong when resuming. May like longer but will be closing late. 10
11 ZAC SEDUCTION ** Resuming. Goes well this trip and should get a good run throughout. Claim helps. 12
12 TOP OF THE TOWN ** Resuming. Was consistent last preparation but will be tested first-up in this. 33
13 METAPHOR * Blinkers off. Maiden who can find easier. 33
14 SILVER AND GOLD * Only form is on poly. 33
15 ON TWISTTER * This is too hard. 50
