Bling Breaks Ice

Only second ride back from injury

S’manga Khumalo, who has been off with an injury for most of the year, came back with a bang at Turffontein on Easter Monday when he won on only his second ride back.

S’manga Khumalo – he’s back!

Tabnews reports that after running fourth on Wonderwall for trainer Sean Tarry on Saturday, Khumalo’s only ride on Monday was Cal’s Crush in Race 6 over 1000m on the Inside track for the same trainer.

In typical “Bling” fashion he brought his mount from near the rear of the field to beat Leia Organa and Levi Lady. Cal’s Crush went off favourite and paid R2.60 for the win.

Khumalo was clearly delighted to be back riding and to get back into the winner’s enclosure.

“It’s taken longer than I thought but I had good people behind me, Mr Tarry especially and Erich van Niekerk. I always do my best but I’m back now and hopefully there are a lot of wins to come.”

Tarry added: “This win is all about S’manga. He’s gone through a tough time but he’s come back well. His weight is good and I’m glad to have him back.”
