Australian-bred stallion Strategic News registered his first winner at Greyville on Sunday when Sean Tarry’s promising Strategic’s Pride slammed his opposition to win a Maiden Plate over the polytrack mile.

The Sean Tarry yard has been on fiery form in recent weeks with 12 winners  in 9 days in November, and they would have been pleased with Strategic’s Pride smart win under leading jockey Anthony Delpech at just his fourth run.

The 3yo colt has earned at all of his runs to date and appeared to enjoy the mile test.

He is a first foal of the solid three-time winning Giant’s Causeway mare, Giant’s Jewel, who won up to 1300m.

A beautifully-bred mare who had three wins and placed eight times – including a second in the Gr 2 Sceptre Stakes, Giant’s Jewel is out of a Seattle Slew mare Super Seleccion – who has produced eight runners and eight winners, from Australia to Hong Kong.

This is the dam-line of dual American Gr 1 winner and sire Slew City Slew, French Gr 3 winner Black Rock Desert and Japanese Group winner Tokyo Seattle.

One of only nine first crop foals, Strategic’s Pride went through the ring at the 2013 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale where he was originally released to Ashburton trainer Des Egdes after the hammer fell at R160 0000.

His first yearlings sold at the 2013 KZN Yearling Sale averaged R170 000 each

Strategic’s Pride races in the silks of his breeder Jurie Snyman.

Strategic News, trained by Dylan Cunha, proved himself as a racehorse, winning the 2007 Grade 1 Steinhoff Summer Cup over 2000 metres in the hands of Glyn Schofield.

Strategic News was sent into training with Herman Brown Jnr and exported to Dubai, where he went on to win the Dubal Casthouse Handicap on turf, at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai, over 1600 metres by a length and half. A month later, again in Dubai at Nad Al Sheba, over turf (2000m) he ran second by a nose to Pompeyano(IRE).

Strategic News is by Strategic out of Sensuous by Grand Lodge.

His sire Strategic, is a champion sire of 2 year olds, and a Sire of Sires.

His dam Sensuous is by Grand Lodge who is the sire of over 62 Stakes winners to date.

He is standing for a fee of R20 000 at Rathmor Stud in KZN.
