Avontuur Estate, the award-winning winery and thoroughbred stud farm from the Helderberg area between Somerset West and Stellenbosch presents the eighth R1 000 000 Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas Race Day at Kenilworth race course on Saturday, 7 December 2013.

Over the years the steady growth of the event, has drawn more support from the racing fraternity and the public, and it is now one of the most versatile racing events on the calendar, as well as being the first big day of the Cape Summer Season.

“With everything from formal, elegant racing to festive fun our Fillies Guineas race day is truly a unique offer and we are excited to expand even further this year” says Avontuur’s  Michael Taberer.

“From the beginning the day has had free entrance to all race lovers and their families with kiddies entertainment in the gardens of the race course, and various options in the building with the exclusive VIP Peninsula  Room as the hospitality equivalent of five star luxury.”

In 2013 the event offers various experiences, tailor-made to accommodate everyone who’s keen to enjoy a stylish day at the races.

Vip Experience

Based in the 4th floor Peninsula Room with panoramic views over the race course and the winning post, guests are treated to a buffet 3-course meal, barista service, cheese bar, Avontuur wine as well as a cash bar service, themed décor and late afternoon high tea. Free betting vouchers, private totes and Betting Buddies to assist those who aren’t au fait with the process are on call.

For many guests one of the highlights is the access to the parade ring where you can rub shoulders with jockeys, trainers and owners as well as interact with the horses up close and personal before each race. The cost is R400 pp and reservations are essential with Moerieda Carolus at [email protected] or +27 21 855-3450.

Backing The Best Chill Lounge Experience

There are few things better than being at ground level right opposite the winning post on a balmy Cape Town Summer afternoon and this is exactly what our new limited access chill area offers you!

Guests are asked to dress to match the stylish décor in black and white with touches of red and gold and to stay on after the last race to party with acoustic singer Blair Taberer and DJ Brett Aitken. Tickets are R250 per person and includes access to the venue, a bottle of wine to share, R100 food coupons to spend at the Intercontinental Village Food Stalls, betting vouchers, private totes and access to the parade ring.

Tickets: www.plankton.mobi or at the door, depending on availability.

Family Fun Experience

From 2012 the advent of the Intercontinental Village with food stalls, folk music, dancing and the Beer Garden and Wine Bar have added to the usual kiddies entertainment on offer. This year eight countries will join us: South Africa, USA, Italy, Thailand, India, Germany, Portugal and Turkey.

A large kiddies entertainment area has been set up and parents are invited to leave their kids under supervision if they want to enjoy a relaxing day with friends and family. Entrance is free.
