Met Action On SABC 3

Guests encouraged to use taxi services

The Sun Met is Africa’s richest race day and the ‘richness’ extends far beyond the prize money.

Rich in colour, rich in decadent designs, rich in entertainment and rich in heart-pumping finishes – for avid racing fans and fashionistas alike, the Sun Met embodies all things elegant, luxurious and aspirational.

Racing enthusiasts have described the 158th running of the Sun Met on Saturday 1 February 2020 as one of the strongest fields ever assembled in South African racing for many years.

Among the 13 horses lining up at the 2000m mark in the R3-million weight-for-age  Grade 1 Sun Met are 2020 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Vardy, two-time Vodacom Durban July winner and Horse Of The Year Do It Again, as well as Mike de Kock-trained Hawwaam.  Kenilworth racecourse remains the battleground for glory as South Africa’s best thoroughbreds vie for victory!

With a disappointing showing in the Queen’s Plate behind him and reassurances from De Kock that the result should have a line drawn through it, Hawwaam fans will be hoping his last run on African soil be a victorious one before he heads to quarantine en route to the United Kingdom in the weeks following the race.

Whilst the action on course is reason enough to attend, the Sun Met also has a reputation for attracting some of the finest fashion ensembles to grace any race day.

The ‘African Luxury: Visionaries’ theme lends itself to eccentric designs and opulent accessories and, with prizes for the best dressed – including a R5000 American Swiss Voucher, a R5000 Canal Walk Shopping Centre, a R5000 Europa Art Shoe voucher and a bottle of House of BNG – there is endless motivation to bring your luxurious vision, with an African flair, to life.
