Eskom Won’t Stop Met!

'We have the power!' - KR Chief Operating Officer

Kenilworth Racing have the logistics and operational plans in place to ensure that any threat of loadshedding or disruption to electricity will not impact on the Sun Met raceday on Saturday.

Concerned punters contacted the Sporting Post offices after Fairview racing was blacked out on Tellytrack out due to loadshedding on Friday afternoon.

“We are pleased to confirm that we have, as on all of our racedays, the generators in place  to ensure a continuation of all of our raceday services. These include the running of the totes, lifts and other aspects to ensure comfort and convenience to visitors,” said KR Chief Operating Officer Faeeza Heuwel in response to our request for clarity.

Mrs Heuwel added that the racing operator had partnered with the City Of Cape Town, who were also the sponsors of the Politician Stakes on the afternoon.

“At our operational meeting this morning with various stakeholders, the aspect of loadshedding was again discussed at length. It is not unusual for the City to accommodate the needs of large sporting events around the power-cut schedules and we are awaiting further advices from them. Either way, I can confirm that there will be no material disruption as a result of any scheduled or unscheduled power cuts,” she assured, adding that international racing commitments were also important considerations.

Mrs Heuwel says that visitors appear to be going the taxi route as in years gone by all parking space had already been snapped up by now.

“Don’t drink and drive. We are thrilled that people are choosing to enjoy the day and then rely on a taxi home. It’s the sensible and responsible option,” she added.
