An imported filly by leading US sire Tapit topped the National 2yo Sale, when knocked down to trainer Joey Ramsden for R650k. The filly was consigned by Highlands, and bred by Anthony Beck’s Gainesway Farm in Kentucky. The selling price was the third highest in the last three years for the 2yo sale, which seemed to have lost momentum last year, certainly at the top-end of the market. The middle market recovered nicely this time, following the trend set by the other main sales earlier in the year.
The 2012 2yo sale averaged a shade under 70k, following the drop from 75k in 2010 to 58k in 2011. When split by sex, colts were up to 80k from 66k last year, and fillies up to 58k from 49k in 2011.
The more telling median price went from 50k to 55k for colts, from 35k to 40k for fillies, and remained at 45k overall when compared to last year.
The runner-up spot, by price, was shared by two colts, each making 500k. The first was a Dynasty half brother to stakes placed Carlo Brigante, from James Armitage’s Sandown Stud. The other a Silvano colt from the family of Champion racemare Arabian Lass, consigned by Danika Stud.
