SA-bred Tellina makes his German debut in the 132nd running of the German St. Leger at Dortmund on Sunday, 18 September 2016.

Originally reserved for 3yo’s, the 2800m race was opened to older horses from 2007 onwards and 11 horses will line up for the final classic of the German season.

Tellina, bred by Maine Chance Farms by Silvano out of the unraced Spectrum mare Tachina, was a R210 000 purchase at the 2011 National Yearling Sale.  During his South African campaign, he was conditioned by Geoff Woodruff and originally raced in partnership by Geoff Woodruff and Terry Young, with Maine Chance Farms’ Andreas Jacobs purchasing an interest during his career.

The 7yo Silvano gelding had a distinguished SA career, racing for 4 wins including the 2012 Gr2 Gauteng Guineas and 2014 Gr3 London News Stakes and was multiple Gr1 placed, including the SA Classic, SA Derby, Champions Challenge, Horse Chestnut Stakes (twice), Summer Cup, SA Derby, J&B Met and two July placings, including the 2015 Gr1 Vodacom Durban July where he was part of the first three past the post in the historic 1-2-3 July result for Silvano and Maine Chance Farms.

He was exported in the latter part of 2015 and joined the Mike de Kock string in Meydan where he raced for the Dubai season.

Tellina is now in the care of Andreas Wöhler and has the services of stable jockey Eddie Pedroza in the saddle for this afternoon’s race.  The field will face the starter at 15:45.
