“The best thing for her was to get the slot early, so we could just get the preparation right with her,” he said, unworried about missing the Gr2 The Shorts last month.

“She is a big strong mare now and we have been focused on having her right for one day…I think we have her where she was before the Lightning in the autumn and that’s a good place to be. She has been up with the best sprinters for a while now. She is going to run a big race on Saturday again.”

Santa Ana Lane remains the favourite after coming up with barrier two, just ahead of Pierata who has the inside draw.

Third favourite Arcadia Queen also received a low barrier at Tuesday’s draw, with the Western Australian mare to jump from barrier three.

Likely leader Nature Strip will start from the outside gate (12), while two-time Everest champion Redzel will start in stall seven.

The barrier draw was conducted by Racing NSW stewards on Tuesday afternoon and revealed In a stunning light show with the the horses’ racing colours and barrier numbers projected on to the southern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

So it’s 12 horses, 1200m, and A$14 million to be won or lost in a little over a minute!

Watch it live on Tellytrack (Dstv 239) from Randwick Racecourse at 07h15 on Saturday morning.
