Tarry’s Trip Shows The Way

Hewitson rides a confident race

A facile maiden winner at her fourth start, Sean Tarry’s Twice The Trip caught the eye when she powered to a smart victory in the R100 000 Listed The Lighthouse Foundation Devon Air Stakes to open the feature action at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

In a tricky looking open leg to the Place Accumulator, the Corne Spies pair of Eastern Belle and Captain’s Run were quickest out the gates and led for much of the trip.

Lyle Hewitson had been stalking the leaders in fourth and he switched Twice The Trip into the clear at the 300m. Just when the Gauteng visitor looked to be going away from them, Grant van Niekerk produced Kailene wider out.

In a thriller, Twice The Trip (7-1) stayed on best to beat Kailene (4-1)  by 0,25 lengths in a time of 87,65 secs.

Miss Putin had been in the mix for quite some way and was not disgraced in third and 1,65 lengths away.

Bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Twice The Trip, a R100 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, has now won 2 races with 1 place from her 5 starts.

Her stakes tally totals R120 500.

The winner is by Twice Over out of the twice winning Trippi mare, Tripinthemist.

Her sire Twice Over has some very well bred yearlings on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale. His draft includes a colt (Lot 27) out of a Gr2 winning daughter of Captain Al, a half-brother (Lot 32) to Gr3 Godolphin Barb runner up Irfaans Boy, a colt (Lot 54) out of Gr3 Acacia Handicap winner Off The Mark, and a filly (Lot 76) bred on the same cross as dual Vodacom Durban July winner Do It Again.
