2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale

There are plenty of speedily bred youngsters on offer at the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Some of the best sources of speed and precocity have yearlings on sale this year – focusing on sires who are known to throw sprinters plus mares who won over short distances, as well as mares who have bred sprinters to date. Below are just a few of the speedily bred yearlings on offer at the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale:

Lot 16 c Kahal – Hot Reception, by Muhtafal. Consigned by Summerhill Sales – Property of a Partnership
This chestnut is bred to blitz! By the sire of top sprinters Noble Heir and Evening Attire, this colt is named Shakaland. His dam is the former top sprinter, Hot Reception, whose five wins include a score in the G3 Poinsettia Stakes. This is the family of former Equus Champion Sprinter, Mythical Flight.

Lot 20 f Captain Al  – Ice Floe, by Northern Guest. Consigned by The Alchemy.
This unnamed bay filly is by the prolific sire of fast fillies in Captain Al. She is a half-sister to the G1 winner (over 1200 metres), Zeeno. The filly’s granddam is the brilliant speedster, Melting, one of the fastest fillies of her generation.

Lot 29 c Var – Isla Bonita, by Joshua Dancer. Consigned by Klipdrif Stud (as Agent).
By former sensational sprinter, and leading speed sire, Var, this colt is named Dollar Dazzler. He is out of the smart sprinting filly, Isla Bonita, by the successful sire Joshua Dancer. Isla Bonita is an own sister to smart sprinter, Jumpin Joshua.

Lot 40 c Trippi – Kaleido, by National Assembly. Consigned by Klawervlei Stud (as Agent).
An unnamed bay, this colt is by former top US sprinter, and sensational sire, Trippi. He is out of Kaleido, a full sister to Horse of the Year and champion sprinter, National Colour. The colt is bred on the same cross which produced unbeaten fillies Agra and Franny.

Lot 77 f Trippi – Love Jeddah, by Danehill. Consigned by Drakenstein Stud.
By an outstanding sprinter and sire, this bay is named The Civilian. She is out of the former top-class 2yo Love Jeddah, a daughter of the great sire and broodmare sire Danehill. This is the family of G1 winning sprinter, Invincible Spirit.

Lot 86 f Trippi – Mamushka, by Elliodor, Consigned by Daytona Stud
Named Calypso Girl, this bay miss is by the ultra promising young sire, Trippi, whose babies have set the turf alight. She is a half-sister to world class sprinter, Tiza – who is still winning as a 10 year old!

Lot 91 c Var – Mighty Doll, by West Man. Consigned by Dempers Stud
A colt whose pedigree shouts speed! By the sire of the great sprinter Val de Ra, this colt is named Mighty Var. He is out of the G3 winning sprinter, Mighty Doll. Mighty Doll herself is by former classy sprinter West Man.

Lot 102 c Rebel King – Moscow Lady, by Russian Fox. Consigned by Riverton Stud
From the first crop of Equus Champion Sprinter Rebel King. This flashy grey is named Ivan The Rebel, and he is out of the quick racemare, Moscow Lady. The colt is a half-brother to six winners, including the smart sprinter, Red Tribution.

Lot 110 c Captain Al – Mythical Bird, by Harry Hotspur. Consigned by The Alchemy.
One for the short list for anyone looking for a speedy youngster! By the top sire Captain Al, himself a very talented sprinter. Unnamed as yet, this bay colt is a half-brother to champion sprinter, Mythical Flight. His dam sire Harry Hotspur was a legendary sprinter, and is a real source of speed in the South African stud book.

Lot 138 c Var – Perceptive, by Silvano. Consigned by Ambiance Stud (Agent for Peter Smith).
This unnamed colt is by the top sprinter and leading sire, Var. The colt’s dam is a half-sister to top sprinters Royal IQ and Mentor, and this is also the family of the very speedy, Wise King.

Lot 165 c Trippi – Rambo’s Love, by Rambo Dancer. Consigned by Roski Stud.
By the very promising sire Trippi, an outstanding performer over 1400 metres, this bay is unnamed. He is out of the smart juvenile, Rambo’s Love, winner of the G3 The Debutante. This is the family of top sprinter, King’s Apostle.

Lot 180 f Kahal – Roman Dream, by Jallad. Consigned by Summerhill Sales.
A chestnut daughter of one of South Africa’s leading sires, she is named Ukulala. This nicely bred miss is a half-sister to the stakes winning sprinter, Onehundredacrewood.  This is the same family as top sprinters Harry Hotspur and Rotterdam.

Lot 193 c Rebel King – Satin And Silk, by Jallad. Consigned by Wicklow Stud.
A chestnut son of former champion sprinter Rebel King, whose first crop has gained rave reviews. Named Bob Rock, the colt is out of a full sister to the very fast filly, Hell’s Angel. This is the family of Mythical Flight.

Lot 195 c Muhtafal – Secret Emblem, by National Emblem. Consigned by Summerhill Sales – Property of a Partnership.
By a proven sire of high-class and precocious stock, this colt goes by the name of Mr President. His dam is a half-sister to champion sprinting filly, Special Key, and this is the family of current high-class sprinter, Captain’s Secret.

Lot 196 c Captain Al – Secret of Victoria, by Goldkeeper. Consigned by Klawervlei Stud (as Agent).
By the outstanding sire of juveniles, this is a very flashy grey colt. Named Secret Command, the colt is out of the brilliant sprinter, Secret of Victoria. This colt is a full brother to unbeaten 2yo sensation, All Is Secret. This is the family of champion Rabiya and English classic winner, Mystiko.

Lot 220 c Captain Al – So Chic, by National Assembly. Consigned by Boland Stud.
A colt by former top sprinter and leading juvenile sire Captain Al. The bay is named is out of the quick mare So Chic, by top speed influence National Assembly. So Chic is a full sister to the smart filly, Rexana. This is the great Soho Secret family.

Lot 221 f Latino Magic – Some Dame, by Complete Warrior. Consigned by Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud.
From the first crop of high-class performer Latino Magic, this filly is named Some Magic. She is a half-sister to top sprinter, Casey Cool. Dam, Some Dame, is a full sister to the G1 winning sprinter, Nobely Born.

Named Secret Traveller, this colt is from the first crop of Equus Champion 2 YO Colt, Argonaut. The chestnut is out of former ARCSA Champion 3yo Female Sprinter, Special Key, and is a half-brother to top-class sprinter Thunder Key, winner of the G2 Diadem Stakes. This is the family of top speedsters, Narc and Captain’s Secret.

Lot 232 c Trippi – Spumante, by Argosy. Consigned by The Alchemy.
By sensational sire Trippi, himself a blazingly fast horse. Unnamed, this bay colt is a half-brother to former top-class 2yo Cool Zone. Dam, Spumante, is an own sister to graded winning sprinter, Ghostly Galleon, and this is the family of such fast horses as Wise King, Royal I Q and Mentor.

Lot 237 f Trippi – State Factor, by National Assembly. Consigned by Drakenstein Stud
A daughter of red hot sire Trippi, this miss is named The Outsider. She is bred on the same Trippi/National Assembly nick which produced star fillies Agra and Franny. Dam, State Factor, was a top racemare who won the G2 The Fillies Nursery.

Lot 249 c Kahal – Summer Bonnet, by Harry Hotspur. Consigned by Avalon Stud.
This colt is by the wonderfully consistent sire Kahal, who is a consistent producer of fast, classy stock. Unnamed the colt is a half-brother to Equus champion 3yo sprinter, Texan Summer. From the family as unbeaten sensation Franny, the colt is out of a mare by former champion sprinter, Harry Hotspur.

Lot 264 c Trippi – Syrian Flame, by All Fired Up. Consigned by Milkwood Stud
A colt by the exciting Trippi, sire of unbeaten 2yo colt Ziparana. Out of a useful racemare, this unnamed bay is a half-brother to graded winning sprinter, National Flame. Granddam, Damascus Road, was a high-class racemare, who won the Tibouchina Stakes.

Lot 270 f Joshua Dancer – Texan Summer, by Houston Connection. Consigned by Avalon Stud.
This bay is one of the last foals sired by the successful sire Joshua Dancer, sire of such  fast horses as Spring Lilac, Badger’s Cove and Trance. The unnamed bay is out of former Equus Champion filly, Texan Summer, and hails from a strong black type family.

Lot 275 c Var – Thru’ The Tulips, by Al Mufti. Consigned by Maine Chance Farms.
Named The Traveller, this bay colt is out of an own sisterto successful sire, Victory Moon. By top sprinter, and leading source of speed, Var, the colt is out of a mare who won over 1000 metres.

Lot 295 f Stronghold – Vanish by Coastal. Consigned by Summerhill Sales
This bay filly goes by the name of Casha. By the very promising, but sadly deceased, sire Stronghold, she is a half-sister to G1 winning sprinter, Disappear. Third dam, Caline, was a G1 winner in North America.

Lot 301 c Var – Viva, by National Assembly. Consigned by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm.
This well bred colt is by former champion sprinter Var, sire of such stars as Val de Ra, Villandry and Variety Club. This bay is called Viva la Var. He is the first foal of top-class sprinter, Viva – a daughter of the leading speed influence National Assembly. Viva is a half-sister to high-class sprinter, Cartel.

Lot 316 c Stronghold – Winning Glory, by Gallic League. Consigned by Summerhill Sales – Property of a Partnership.
A well connected bay, this colt has been named Marino Casino. By a very promising son of Danehill in Stronghold, the colt is a half-brother to 34 time winning sprinter, Hear The Drums.  The colt’s maternal grandsire, Gallic League, himself was a very high-class performer over six furlongs.

Lot 318 f Var – Winter Parade, by Western Winter. Consigned by Klipdrif Stud (Agent).
By the blisteringly fast Var, now one of South Africa’s most popular and successful sires. This bay is called Winter Passion, and she is out of the useful sprinter, Winter Parade. This is the family of the very fast filly, Rosinante.

Lot 319 c Western Winter – Wise Dame, by Argosy. Consigned by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm.
A superbly bred colt, this bay has been cleverly named Mensa. By triple champion sire Western Winter, the colt is out of the stakes winning sprinter Wise Dame. Mensa is a half-brother to top sprinters Royal IQ and Mentor, and he is a full brother to the G1 filly, My Kazzie.

Lot 352, c Var – Bahama Coral, by Model Man. Consigned by Ambiance Stud.
By speed sensation Var, this colt is as yet unnamed. His dam won three races up to 1400 metres and is a half-sister to top sprinters Rodoille and Blue Tiger (the latter is now at stud). This is also the family of champions Wainui and Pointing North.

Lot 356 f King of Kings – Bella Lea, by Gallic League. Consigned by Somerset Stud.
This is brown miss is by the really fast, former 2000 Guineas winner King of Kings, sire of brilliant 2yo Reign as Kings. This brown is a half-sister to former G3 winning 2yo, Mr Flatley. This is the family of top Cape sprinter, Signor Amigo.

Lot 358 c Overlord – Beside The Sea, by Concertino. Consigned by Scott Bros.
This bay colt is by the beautifully bred Overlord, a close relation to champion sire Storm Cat.
Named Lord Trafalgar, the colt is a half-brother to G1 winning 2yo (over 1200m) Carnadore. The colt is also a half-brother to the smart filly, Surf The Net.

Lot 360 c Var – Betty’s Bay, by West Man. Consigned by Rathmor Stud (Agent).
By Var, one of the fastest horses ever to come to South Africa, this chestnut colt is still unnamed. He is out of the sprinter Betty’s Bay – a half-sister to the stakes winner Surf The Web. This is the family as G1 winner Port of London, racing successfully in Hong Kong as Sambuca.

Lot 375, f Windrush – Celestial Mist, by Celestial Dancer. Consigned by Beaumont Stud.
Unnamed this filly is by Windrush, an exceptional sire of fillies. This bay miss is out of a very fast filly, who was placed in the G2 The Fillies Nursery and Listed Goldfields Sprint.

Lot 376 c Argonaut – Champagne ‘n Roses, by Goldmark. Consigned by Cheveley Stud.
This chestnut is from the first crop of his sire, a former champion 2yo colt. Unnamed, the colt is out of the G1 performing sprinter, Champagne ‘N Roses – a daughter of former champion sprinter Goldmark. The colt on offer is a half-brother to two black type performers and is from the family of top sprinters Black Skimmer and Jungle Class.

Lot 378 c Jet Master – Chant de Nuit, by Caesour. Consigned by Klipdrif Stud (Agent).
One of the last sons of the great sire Jet Master to come up for sale, this bay is unnamed. By the sire of such superb sprinters as J J The Jet Plane and Mythical Flight, this colt is out of the very quick racemare, Chant de Nuit. This is the family of champion female sprinter, Ethereal.

Lot 398 f Kahal  – Cousin Linda, by Badger Land. Consigned by Summerhill Sales – Property of a Partnership
Named Cousin Anne, this filly has huge paddock value. By an outstanding sire in Kahal, this chestnut is a half-sister to Equus Champion Sprinter, and exciting young sire, Rebel King. This is the family of G1 Garden Province Stakes winner, Lyrical Linda.

Lot 400 c Var – Cresta, by Western Winter. Consigned by Gary Player Stud Farm
By an exceptional speed sire in Var, this colt is appropriately named Gorr. The bay colt is out of a winning half-sister to champion sprinter, Hinterland. The bay is from the family of champion sire Foveros.

Lot 408 c Kahal – Dare To Dream, by Shalford. Consigned by Aldora Stud.
This chestnut colt has been named Dream Leader. By a top sire in Kahal, this colt is out of the former Equus Champion 2YO filly Dare to Dream. His damsire, Shalford, was an excellent sprinter in his own right, and this yearling has a really speedy pedigree.

Lot 410 f Mogok – Dazzling Danzig, by Shoe Danzig. Consigned by Scott Bros.
This bay miss has been given the name of Elitest. She is a full sister to the stakes winning sprinter, Corpes Da Elite. Granddam, Blushing Star, won the G1 Computaform Sprint. The filly is by the proven G1 sire Mogok, sire of such top horses as The Apache and Gypsy’s Warning.

Lot 420 c Jet Master – Easyjadeasy, by Model Man. Consigned by Nutfield Stud
This colt is called Eternal Jet, and is by the mighty sire and racehorse, Jet Master. He is out of the very quick racemare, Easyjadeasy, and is from the wonderful E family responsible for a host of champions over the years.

Lot 462 c Var – Golden Fantasy, by Goldkeeper. Consigned by Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud (Agent).
By sire sensation Var, this bay colt is named Wild Thing. He is out of a mare by important speed influence Goldkeeper, and is from the wonderful Lily family. This family has produced such top speedsters as Geordoba, Villnadry and Vega.

Lot 466 f Jet Master – Guest Among Men, by Among Men. Consigned by Klipdrif Stud (Agent).
By the great sire Jet Master, this bay filly has been named Gogreaselightning. She is a three parts sister to world class sprinter J J The Jet Plane as well as recent G3 King’s Cup winner, Jet Legend. She is out of the stakes placed mare Guest Among Men.
