The Pink Drive

The Ladies Spring Race Day will tie in with the Johannesburg Spring Challenge at Turffontein Racecourse on the 6th of October. Set to become an annual event, the day will be about glamour, fun, empowering women and encouraging involvement in the breast cancer awareness campaign.

And appropriately linked to this day, “Imagine Racing” a marketing, PR, communication and syndication campaigner for the horse racing industry, is hosting a charity event in support of the PinkDrive Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

Finweek magazine has added their voice as media partner, to promote the horse racing industry to the greater public. Together with some of the industry’s authorities and personalities, they will be producing a 20 page supplement to the Finweek magazine of the 4th of October. The supplement will cover history, economics, the state of the industry, various profiles and how to get involved in racing, particularly as an owner.

Although the day is not exclusively for women, the intent is for the day to become a flagship for women in racing and we hope to launch an incentive in 2013, which will see sponsorship of additional prize money to any winning horses that are owned exclusively by women.

Guests at the venue, on the deck, will have the chance to win 10% of a filly in training and any owners of runners on the day stand a chance of winning vouchers from Varsfontein stud, worth R10 000 towards the purchase of a filly from any sale in 2013.

Bearing in mind that Varsfontein have bred many superb race fillies including Promisefrommyheart, Covenant, Caughtintheslips, Arcola, Princess Of Light, Alexandra Rose, Irridescence, Perfect Promise, Duchess Daba, Sabina Park and Marie Galante.

New race day guests will be taken down to the parade ring to allow them to experience the feeling of being part of the racing action.

Prizes for the best dressed women and men include a specially designed pink hat from Pallu Boutique in Sandton, as well as Yves Saint Laurent gift hampers from renowned make-up artist David John.

In addition, guests will gave the opportunity to bid on an exclusive designer chair generously donated by Casarredo home décor store, with all proceeds going to PinkDrive.

The PinkDrive mobile mammography unit will be parked in front of the grandstand and women from the local community are also invited to have free health checks on the day.

Imagine Racing anticipates a great day out, for a very worthy cause. “We want to share our excitement for horse racing and demystify the industry, while demonstrating the thrill of owning a race horse. If we can promote new ownership while at the same time raising money and awareness for the PinkDrive charity during Breast Cancer awareness month, we will be achieving our objectives.”
