Classic! Readytogorightnow wins the Gr3 Winter Classic (Equine Edge)

The smart Justin Snaith trained 3yo Readytogorightnow finds himself on the brink of wearing the Cape Winter Series Triple Crown after an emphatic win in Saturday’s second leg, the  Gr3 R200 000 Winter Classic run at a gloomy Kenilworth.

The Australian bred Readytogorightnow, who races in the Hassen Adams silks,  won the first leg, the Gr3 Winter Guineas run on 5 May when he beat King Of Pain easily.

He now goes into the third and final leg run over 2400m on 29 June as a realistic contender for the R250000 bonus. And a place in the hallowed hall of fame inhabited by the former Triple Crown winner, Pocket Power!

Despite beating King Of Pain in the Guineas, the latter was backed to beat Readytogorightnow.

But it was not to be.

The Bass’ farrier unwittingly came under the spotlight just prior to the race, with both  Ze Kaiser and Nearctic Dancer having to be reshod at the start. Nearctic Dancer was eventually withdrawn.

Parker made the pace from True Master, with King Of Pain tucked away in third ahead of Awesome Power.

Turning for home, Parker refused to throw in the towel as King Of Pain flattered briefly as Glen Hatt find a gap down the middle.

In a matter of strides Readytogorightnow  cut them down with Ze Kaiser gaining his stride late down the outside.

Readytogorightnow proved superior and beat Ze Kaiser by 1,25 lengths in a time of 116,53 secs.

The well bred Bass grey ran on powerfully in second and looks to be a horse with plenty of scope.

Glen Puller’s Awesome Power ran an excellent third in a blanket finish. Parker plodded into fourth.

Selangor Cup winner King Of Pain moved up on the rail, but had nothing to offer late and faded to finish stone last of the seven runners. There may well be an explanation forthcoming for this below par effort in the stipes report.  Although he really only finished 3,10 lengths behind the winner.

Readytogorightnow was bred by Mr G J Moffitt and is a 3yo gelded son of Southern Halo stallion, More Than Ready.

More Than Ready is a champion first season Sire, a champion 2yo sire in both hemispheres, and a sire of the winner or placegetter in the Golden Slipper for the last 5 years.

He is a sire of Champion 2yo’s and Champion older horses like 2012 Doncaster winner More Joyous.

Readytogorightnow is out of an unraced Hurricane Sky mare, Storm Fronts(AUS). She hails from the same family of the brilliant Plattner sprinter, Joie de Grise.

Readytogorightnow is a winner of 4 of his 11 starts with 3 places for stakes of R659 695.

Now the big question. Will he stay the 2400m of the Triple Crown third leg?
