Trip Tease wins Lebelo_compressed

Trip Tease – top sprinter and goes 1200m for the first time

While he is just ticking over and counting the days to his Cape Summer Season campaign, and with the racing programme not offering much in the way of suitable options, Louis Goosen’s Trippi gelding Trip Tease faces a milestone in his career at the Vaal on Thursday where he goes the 1200m for the first time.

Trip Tease faces eleven opponents in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m, and at  course at which he has run eight times for seven wins and a second place.

In his typically prudent style, Goosen told the Sporting Post that they were a ‘little hesitant’ that his charge would get the extra on the ‘Vaal Deep’.

“The wide draw isn’t a big plus either. But races are few and far between for him and we are keeping him on the roll in advance of the Cape summer,” he said.

The Class

But with the genius Piere Strydom up, and with Trip Tease’ exemplary form, massive heart and dynamite ability, many punters will be taking their chances with the obvious class in the field.

The name Trip Tease has long sparked a flicker of hope in the heart of many a seasoned exotic bet punter– since the day some two years back when he flew home on debut on the Vaal sand to win by 8,25 lengths.

Having won 12 of his 18 starts, Trip Tease has been a horse that one can go to war with – and that is shown that his two ‘worst’ runs – a fourth place and unplaced run (a fifth in the Cape Flying) were both in Gr1 races.

Not bad after starting off life as a largely unwanted 2yo in the sales ring, where he was secured for R70 000 by the astute Goosen.

Great Returns

Louis Goosen - sends out Trip Tease

Louis Goosen – sends out Trip Tease

If he wins on Thursday, he will take his personal return on investment to a gross 2000%. That’s a good luck story no matter who your trainer, and where you’re racing.

And Louis Goosen, or ‘The Goose’, with his 21 years of training experience, deserves massive credit for keeping this fellow on the go. There is plenty of the stamp of his mentor and friend, the late Buddy Maroun, about the way he operates.

While there is some class in the race in the form of Across The Ice and Precursor, and the lightly tried De Kock 4yo Dreamuponadream, none have the credentials of Trip Tease.

We are putting our faith in The Goose and Striker- let’s not look for spooks!
