An important charity fund-raising event

UCT RAG Race Day

A real jol! UCT RAG Race Day 2014

Students and young adults will be looking forward to one of the social highlights of their year in Cape Town, the UCT RAG Student race day at Kenilworth Racecourse on March 7, which is not only a tremendous fun day out but is also an important charity fund-raising event.

The organised entertainment and activities on the day will revolve around an eight-race program and like last year the course should be packed with young merrymakers.

RAG stands for Remember and Give and at UCT this student run organisation has been active for 85 years.

They aim to raise R1 million annually and all of the funds are donated to their charity arm SHAWCO (Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation). SHAWCO is a non-profit student run NGO (non-governmental organisation) at UCT that seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals in developing communities within the Cape Metropolitan area. SHAWCO is divided into 2 main sectors: Education and Health, and now has 1200 student volunteers running over 15 health and education projects in 5 SHAWCO centres as well as other locations around the Cape Metropolitan area.
