US G1 Winner for Trippi

R Heat Lightning's win in the Spinaway S. at Saratoga gives sire Trippi his first G1 winner

R Heat Lightning wins Gr1 Spinaway

Two-year-old filly R Heat Lightning gave sire Trippi his first G1 winner when she won the Spinaway S. at Saratoga yesterday. Trippi, who started his stud career in the US, now stands at Drakenstein Stud in Franschoek. His first South African crop have just turned yearlings.

R Heat Lightning is the second foal of her 3-time winning dam Yellow Heat, and is full sister to stakes placed colt Hot Trip. Yellow Heat is a daughter of stallion Gold Fever, who is a son of Forty Niner. The latter is also the grandsire of Trippi, which makes R Heat Lightning inbred 3×3 to Forty Niner.

Gold Fever seems to have been pivotal in the thinking of the breeders of the female line family. Gold Fever’s female line is the one of Exclusive Dancer, the 3-part sister to sire Exclusive Native and herself dam of sire General Assembly.

Exclusive Dancer is also the fourth dam of R Heat Lightning, which makes R Heat Lightning’s dam Yellow Heat inbred to Exclusive Dancer, as bottom female line ancestor of both her parents.

Also interesting is Yellow Heat’s once-raced dam The Real Thing. She’s by Capote (Seattle Slew) out of Mime (Cure The Blues x Exclusive Dancer). Compare this to the pedigree of stallion American Chance, who is by Cure The Blues out of American Chance, by Seattle Slew out of a daughter of Exclusive Dancer. American Chance is sire of the dam of Trippi’s stakes winning son Dream Of Angels, making his pedigree very close to the one of R Heat Lightning.

The female line does have representatives in South Africa, notably Maine Chance’ Kali Ridge, Highland’s Kelly’s Olympics and Avontuur’s Red Remedy (interestingly a daughter of Cure The Blues, with a 2008 filly called Solarium by Forty Niner’s grandson Var, bought for R260k by Michael Azzie). Avontuur also have Argentine-bred mare La Normandie, who is by American Chance out of La Sorbonne by Roy – and is carrying to Var. She’s another to keep in mind for a mating to Trippi.
