Var Daughter Wins Over 2400m

Blinkers do the trick agan

Avontuur super-sire Var has produced his fair share of champion sprinters and magic milers over the past 14 years. But he showed his versatility at Turffontein on Guineas Day when his daughter Gottalottaluv stayed on powerfully to win the 2400m R135 000 Allez France Stakes.

The stats show that less than 1% of Var’s winners are achieved over 2400m plus, yet his tough daughter Gottalottaluv was not stopping as she galloped powerfully all the way to the wire.

In a quality line-up that included the promising Sunshine Silk and Jet Start, Sporting Post Personality of the week Diego De Gouveia tracked the leader Rabia The Rebel all the way to the 400m.

Full of enthusiasm and unbeaten in blinkers, Gottalottaluv drew off and went away from her rivals to hold the late finish of Parisienne Chic by 3,40 lengths in a time 156,61 secs.

The favourite Sunshine Silk maintained her consistent form to run third, with Jet Start (fourth) not appearing to see out the 2400m.

The winner was trained by Stuart Pettigrew and races in the Ian van Schalkwyk silks.

A R300 000 National Yearling Sale purchase, Gottalottaluv was bred by Carl and Amanda de Vos and is a daughter of Var (Forest Wildcat) out of the Model Man mare, Olympic Dam. That makes her a half-sister to Drakenstein sire , Gold Standard (Trippi).

She has won 3 races with 8 places from 15 starts for stakes of R371 687.
