Three Wise Men On The July

Laff argues Dark Moon Rising's inclusion

“If I didn’t get into the race, I certainly wouldn’t be slinging off about another horse that did get in,”says trainer Paul Lafferty on a Vodacom Durban July panel discussion on Monday evening’s Winning Ways Show.

Lafferty was responding to a question from James Goodman after puzzlement in certain quarters that his 102 rated Dark Moon Rising had got the nod from the panel ahead of certain better qualified feature race winners.

“Two independent champion jockeys have told me over a period of time that Dark Moon Rising is the best stayer I will ever train,”says the Summerveld conditioner.

But watch the clip and hear how Kevin Shea reminisces about Ipi Tombe being backed in from 66’s to 6’s in 2002.
