A Bit Like Buying Money?

23rd win on the trot looms large

Australian super-mare Winx will face eight rivals in her return to racing in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on Saturday.

Winx – Australian champion

Rated the world’s best horse on turf, she will be aiming for her 23rd win in succession and a record 16th Gr1 victory. After Saturday’s race, Winx is due to contest the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 24.

This potentially sets up an opportunity to equal Black Caviar’s record of 25 wins in succession in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m at the Royal Randwick meeting on April 14

Meanwhile www.punters.com.au report that a TAB punter has placed $108,000 on Winx to win at odds of $1.06.

According to TAB’s Media Manager Glenn Munsie, the wager is the biggest single bet the operator has ever taken on the superstar mare.

The previous largest bet on Winx was in last year’s Cox Plate, with a punter plonking $106,500 on the 15-time Group One winner at $1.15.

The TAB customer who has parted with $108,000 on the mare for her Randwick return, stands to make a profit of $6,480 if Winx is able to add a third Chipping Norton to her trophy cabinet.

In rand terms, that’s risking the equivalent of R995 850 to make a profit of R59 751!

Winx is currently at $1.08 across most of the corporates, while Betfair punters can have up to $36,000 on her at $1.10. That is subject to change.
