Bang in-form Paarl trainer Glen Kotzen, Summerveld resident Tony Rivalland and PE-based Gavin Smith travel the long road to Vereeniging to take on 25 local hopes in the R500 000 WSB Grand Heritage run over the 1475m straight at the Vaal on 7 December.

The Grand Heritage, a conditions race for all horses, with a benchmark MR of 106, is South Africa’s equivalent of famous big field handicaps like The Cesarewitch, The Cambridgeshire and the Tote Ebor, which are three of the biggest annual betting heats in England.
The race was conceptualised in 2016 with the purpose of replacing the Emerald Cup on the now defunct Vaal sand.
The rails dividing the Inside and Outside Vaal racecourses will be taken down for the meeting, leaving one wide racecourse.
