Looking for a salt-of-the-earth, honest, ambitious, articulate racehorse trainer with an impressive CV that includes a sensational J&B Met winner and a total of twelve Group winners?

Then look no further than 41 year old Yogas Govender, who opens his doors for business at Summerveld on Friday 10 April.

In an exclusive chat with the Sporting Post on Thursday while moving house, the 41 year father of two and multiple Group-winning conditioner said that he and his family were happy to be back in their hometown and that he was raring to start training winners.

Yogas Govender – ready to rock and roll

“I am looking forward to the challenge of this new phase in my career, as I venture out on my own after 5 years training for Sabine Plattner.I learnt a helluva lot and enjoyed my time on the West Coast. But I needed to continue growing and going it alone was the obvious step. And I know I can do it. I have had many promises of support from across the country and I still have a few open boxes.I intend to start with a small, select and personalised service operation. It is all very exciting!” he said.

Yogas trained 2013 Met winner Martial Eagle, as well as 12 Group winners and 7 Gr1 placers in his time with the Plattner Racing Team. He trained 316 winners – no mean achievement!

This was achieved with relatively middle of the road equine resources at times, although the Rondeberg facilities are known to be world-class.

He has been granted boxes at Summerveld and was full of praise for and thanked Tony Rivalland and the management of Gold Circle.

“The guys have been so accomodating. I know it is a busy time of the year – probably the wrong time to be stable hunting frankly – but I applied and was granted boxes! I am very appreciative of that.”

Yogas says he would be very happy to field any enquiries from prospective and existing owners and was also attending the sales next month.

He can be contacted on mobile: 084 740 8181 or email him on [email protected].

We wish one of the nicest guys in the game all of the very best.
