A Day Of Good Fortune!

First timer comments for Turffontein today

The Ashley Fortune yard are looking to build on their dazzling double at the Vaal on Thursday when they send out three runners at Turffontein today.

While likely places are probably more realistic than winning chances, they are still hopeful of a good day…..

With a Pick pool projected at R5 million and the prospects of the PA and first Jackpot reaching R1,5 million, there is plenty to play for.

Fortune Racing spokesman Andrew Fortune said that the first of their runners was the Crusade colt Anatolio who runs in the Pick 6 opener, the Gr3 Protea Stakes.

“We are throwing him in the deep end – and wouldn’t have done so if we didn’t rate him. A nice colt, he has shown up well in work and is expected to improve on his debut. He is taking on winners, but could get a place.

Let It Rain – not 100% for today as being prepped for the Gold Bowl (Pc – JC Photos)

The stalwart stayer Let It Rain runs in the Gr3 Caradoc Gold Cup, the final leg of the Pick 6.

“We are targeting him at the Gold Bowl so he is not at his peak yet. But he stays well and is another capable of place money.”

The 6yo Arctica has his first run for the Fortunes on transfer from the Azzies when he runs in the eleventh race.

“He is a lovely horse but may need it after a 13 week break. Once again, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him earning a place cheque.”

The false rail has been set at zero on the back straight to 5.5m on the bend, with a 5.5m spur at the 700m mark.
