Ash Fortune’s Sizzling Vaal Hat-Trick

Aldo Domeyer's family 1-2-3!

After saddling her first runner just three months ago, Vaal based Lady Trainer Ashley Fortune saddled her first winner – a Gr3 to boot – a month later.

With the winners ticking over smartly in recent weeks, she celebrated her first three timer at the Vaal on Tuesday to take her win tally to ten in double quick time. Her win strike-rate of close on 25% is impressive!

It has been a flying start for the talented Mrs Fortune, who continues to make a name for herself and grow her string in one of the toughest professions on earth.

As some of us like to believe, behind every successful woman is an outstanding man – or two – and in Ashley’s case it’s her husband and former champion jockey Andrew, and his son Aldo Domeyer.

The Cape-based Domeyer took his season tally to 127 when he booted home the Fortune hat-trick.

The rout started in the fourth race when Aldo steered the Judpot filly Get Your Grove On to her maiden victory for the Adams – Chinsammy partnership.

In the eighth, the Gimmethegreenlight gelding Evolver made it two wins from five starts for Ashley, when he stayed on best – to make it a double for the Adams-Chinsammy partnership.

The R700 000 National Yearling Sale purchase Horace, shed his maiden at his fifth start when winning the last in the Greg Bortz silks.

Ashley, who saddled Rocky Night to win the third at Turffontein on Saturday, told the Sporting Post that she was thrilled to have celebrated her first hat-trick.

“One needs a lot of support both externally and internally in this game. I am lucky to enjoy family support, plenty of good advice and the patronage of some staunch owners who understand that it takes patience,”said an elated Ashley.

Aldo rides Big Blue Marble and Mount Keith for the Fortune team on Thursday at the Vaal. Don’t miss that bus!
