Leading sire of 2yo’s Sail From Seattle produced his sixth individual winner of the season at Fairview on Monday, courtesy of Alan Greeff’s smart debut winner Gone Not Forgotten.

The beautiful big bay colt, whose name well sums his sire up, was the on-course whisper and starting a well-backed 14-10 favourite he disposed of his opposition in the 1000m event with clinical professionalism.
The winner was bred by the Baitz family and is out of the one-time winning Whitechapel mare, Look Who’s Talkin.
Sail From Seattle, who died last year, stood at Ashley Parker’s Ascot Stud and the top Eastern Cape breeder has two of only three of the son of Gone West’s progeny –including a sister to a Cape Guineas winner – on this weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Ascot Stud’s Lot 18 is a full sister to exported Gr1 Cape Guineas winner Elusive Gold. She is a half sister to 2 other graded winners, and hails from the family of champion fillies Dog Wood and Enchanted Garden
The second is Lot 55, bred on the same cross as Elusive Gold, this filly is out of a winning half sister to the dam of 2 graded winners, and hails from the same E family as champions Elusive Fort, Ecurie and Empress Club
Dr Ian Heyns offers the third and only colt in Lot 81, out of the Al Mufti mare Hawaiian Wahoo a winner of the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery and runner-up in the Gr1 SA Fillies Guineas.
Sail From Seattle was a son of the Gr1 Dwyer Stakes winner and outstanding sire Gone West, whose numerous top class sire sons included South Africa’s ill-fated multiple Champion Sire Western Winter. The list includes the likes of US Champion Sire Elusive Quality, and the very successful Grand Slam, Mr Greeley, Speightstown Zafonic and Zamindar –to name a few.

Retired to stud in 2009, Sail From Seattle’s first crop produced six stakes horses including the Gr1 winners Elusive Gold (Cape Guineas) and Gulf Storm (Cape Flying Championship), East Cape champion Seattle Storm and millionaire Gr2 winner, Tommy Gun.
Seven stakes horses emerged from the sire’s second crop – headed by Listed Lady’s Slipper winner Dancing Natasha, and Guineas/Classic placed Sail For Gold.
His eight-time winning son Sail South finished a storming third behind SA Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle in the Gr1 L’ Ormarins Queen’s Plate on 7 January.
