Cheyne’s Super Six

Six winners in two days

Jockey Greg Cheyne demonstrated a fine balance of pace and confidence  when producing a lovely ride to win the R100 000 November Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

He was to go on and ride four winners at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The Friday 1400m feature was an open betting race with local poly superstar Gogetthesheriff going off a weak 7-2 favourite.

But a determined Cheyne had other ideas and after Ryan Munger had scrambled to get Gogetthesheriff into stride, Cheyne had Ochoncar in front from the widest draw to lead the pack.

What followed was beautiful to watch as Cheyne dictated matters, and even after taking some pressure at the 200m, he had judged it perfectly to get the Foster owned and bred gelding home.

Ochoncar beat the low-flying Gogetthesheriff by 0,75 lengths in a time of 82,08 secs.

The former Dean Kannemeyer mare Peach Delight caught the eye on her PE debut, running third 0,75 lengths back in what was a strong field.

Ochoncar is a 5yo gelded son of Captain Al out of the three-time winning Western Winter mare, Grace Me Guide.

He has won 5 races with 7 places from 25 starts for stakes of R340 275.

He should pay to follow.

Winning trainer Alan Greeff celebrated a hat-trick of winners on the day, with Cheyne booting home a double.

Back home on Saturday, Cheyne rode a four-timer on the Kenilworth card, to make it a good haul of winners.

He is currently at second position on the national jockey table.
