SA Jock Now A Hall Of Famer

Happy Birthday Derreck - and congratulations!

Derreck HOFSouth African jockey Derreck David was inducted into the Mauritius Racing Hall Of Fame on Saturday after he steered Gharbee to a fluent win in the final race.

David, who goes by the nickname DD, turns 27 today and appears to have found his niche on the tight Champ de Mars circuit.

He achieved the acknowledgement for winning 5 races in a day and he is the first jockey in 93 years to win the last 5 races on the 8 card race meeting!

His biggest career win to date was his brilliant performance to win the 2010 Gr1 SA Classic on Pierre Jourdan. He formed a winning association with the Gary Alexander-trained son of Parade Leader and won 7 races on him.

David becomes the 14th jockey to have achieved this feat.

The existing 12 jockeys in the Hall Of Fame are:

Jack Day (1917)

Wallis Mc Cloud (1923)

Joe Gilmore (1961)

Basil Lervis (1964)

Alan Lilley (1972)
