Goodbye Corrie – Hello Ziets

Flamingo first is off at 12h10

It’s the end of an era for dual champion trainer Corrie Lensley at Flamingo Park today and the beginning of a new one for brand new trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen, who saddles his first ten runners after a long apprenticeship as assistant to Bill Human.

Lensley has decided to call time on his Kimberley yard and will move his entire operation to Milnerton where he opened shop last month.

Oosthuizen (pictured left) wrote on social media: “Finally I got the green light. I’m officially a Licensed Trainer. The dream is now finally coming to life.”

There has been no news from racing authorities on the impact of the presidential state of disaster declared on Sunday evening.

There are ten races on the card, with the first off at 12h10.

The feature is the seventh, the R110 000 Kimberley 1400 where Corne Spies’ True Words looks hard to stop, despite his 64kg welterweight.

The track is noted as ‘rain effected’, although there apparently has been no rain for the past 24 hours, 49mm fell in the past seven days.
