Michael Jacobs’ selections for the big day.

Kenilworth 19/01/2019
Race 1- wide open maiden plate, plenty with chances

1 Silva’s Fling (Cost R4 Million),first run gelded, can win now)

2 GimmetheRain

10 Miraculously Ours (well-bred Silvano, can improve)

4 Augustina

Race 2- this race is a minefield, a wide open MR74, anything can win!

15 GG’s Dynasty (won well last time)

12 Kalahari Ninja (recently gelded)

Anything for the places

Race 3- intriguing Juvenile feature, including 6 upcountry visitors. Expect improvement from most of the runners. Upset potential here, although I liked the way Double Alliance won in a quick time

1 Double Alliance

4 Brandina ?

Race 4- Strong field for a Sales race, but Cirillo stands out on his run to Soqrat ( only concern is that Tarry hasn’t fired in Cape Town)

1 Cirillo ?

14 Temple Grafin (only 2 bad runs were around the turn from very wide draws)

11 Montego Bay

Race 5- fantastic field for a Sales race, this should have been the Derby field! Form behind Soqrat should hold up strongly

3 Twist of Fate

1 One World

12 Silvano’s Pride/2 Chimchuri Run

Race 6- Highly competitive Grade 1 sprint, many with chances

7 Pacific Trader (won impressively, up  and coming star sprinter)

9 Dutch Phillip ?

5 Kasimir

11 Sand and Sea

Race 7- I’m expecting an upset here, there is no stand-out 3yr old in this field, all very average. The best formline might be the Twist of Fate formline, or upcountry form might be the unknown factor?

9 Belgarion ? (not a confident selection)

3 Bunker Hunt

1 Thanksgiving

Eight upcountry visitors, expect at least 2 in the top 4 as the locals are very average

Race 8- wide open FM Grade 1, plenty with chances

12 Front and Centre (up against a topclass field)

7 Miyabi Gold ? (Striker up, can improve)

2 Snowdance

11 Silvan on Fire

Race 9- Go with the class horses!

11 Eyes Wide Open ? (I’m expecting improvement)

7 Do It Again (class horse in top form)

13 Oh Susanna

9 Rainbow Bridge

Race 10- very open Stayers race, the weights will determine the outcome. The younger horse can improve as the older horse are well-exposed

4 Strathdon (at the weights)

2 Let It Rain (carrying a competitive mass)

5 Gimme One Night (not well in at weights)

13 Dynasty’s Blossom ? Tries the distance, bred for this trip.

14 Cedar Man

(Bass-Robinson  runners could be there)

Race 11- very competitive maiden, plenty with chances

6 Saint West (factor in GG’s run in race 2 ?)

4 Cat Daddy

9 Blackbeard

Race 12-  very open MR 87, once again anything can win!

12 Top of Class (not a confident selection)

6 Trip to the Sky ( first run gelded, can improve)

16 Shadowing

14 Vardo/ 2  What a Winter
