LIM’S SINCERE in solid form and hard to beat (Pic by Singapore Turf Club)

While weight can stop a train, it looks a good night for the number 1 saddlecloth and it may pay for punters to follow the Numero Uno.

As is often the case, a couple of Class droppers look very well placed to win including LIM’S SINCERE back in Class 4 in race 3 on the card.

The 4YO won the last time he was in Class 4 and given his form in better company has been good, he might be hard to beat in what looks a very suitable affair.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120Q NINE MAXIM is the other Class dropper that appeals and given this is the 5YO’s first look in Class 5, he really should be hard to hold out with Nunes onboard.

Other horses carrying the “1” that can win include OLLIE THE EAGLE resuming in the Open Maiden (race 4) while FORTUNE WINNER, DAMON and KELTIC KARMA could very well make it a 1-1-1 finish to the evening, which should make it easy for “jackpot” or “quaddie” players when filling out their ticket.

Friday 21 October

Race 1

Selections; 4 REAL HERO – 3 NOVA LEGEND – 2 GUILTLESS – 9 SUPER SPUR
Enough horses in good form in this Class 5 Poly sprint to think there is plenty of betting activity and the tote may be a very good guide. REAL HERO showed more than enough last start dropping to Class 5 to think he wins again sooner than later and S John from gate 3 suggests sooner. GUILTLESS is in solid form but may sneak out to some value given apprentice H Syafiq has gate 12 to contend with. NOVA LEGEND may also be value after being slowly away at recent outings so his form is perhaps better than it reads on paper. Add Nunes and a drop to Class 5 and he must go very close. SUPER SPUR and SACRED CROWN two others that win without surprising on recent form and pay to keep a few others safe in what is a wide open race.

1 ARCHER COMPANY ** Battled on well in similar race last start and expect much the same again. 8.00
2 GUILTLESS *** Gate a concern but is due and can be prominent throughout. 8.00
3 NOVA LEGEND *** Will improve lengths dropping back to only winning grade with Nunes a factor. 12
4 REAL HERO *** In form and wins in this Company sooner than later. 5.00
5 SEASONS ECHO ** Very much appreciates drop to Class 5 and the ace but is a better option on the turf. 20
6 SACRED CROWN *** Will need luck from the wide gate but recent form good in similar affairs to this. 5.00
7 GOOD MISSION * Needs to show more. 50
8 D’DON * Better option over 1000m. 20
9 SUPER SPUR *** Can mix his form but must be respected on recent runs. 4.00
10 ALWAYS A WINNER ** Hard to fault form but drawn wide and hasn’t won since January 2015 which is a concern. 8.00
11 RIO DE JANEIRO ** Yet to finish in the money but first up run was solid and can include in skinny end of exotics. 20
12 CASSIS OOLONG * No. 100
13 FAST JET ** Form reads badly and drawn badly but won maiden this trip and pay to keep safe. 20
14 SILENT CONNECTION * Impossible on form but recent trial with headgear OK so may improve. 50

Race 2

Selections; 7 SHADOW OF WAR – 9 SUPER GENIUS – 5 HAYTHAM – 8 SPECIAL RAIN
A Restricted Maiden with no depth whatsoever and as such they might be falling out of the tree’s to back SHADOW OF WAR at his race debut. The Australian-bred 3YO has had two local trials and looked good when winning both. He was a tad green at his first trial – which could be a concern for favourite backers – but given nothing else jumps off the page on trial or race form, he could be hard to beat. The tote will be a good guide on the other newcomers including LEONARDO and SPECIAL RAIN who both looked solid at the trials but it may be the filly SUPER GENIUS who is the biggest threat to SHADOW OF WAR off the back of her nice trials. Only one horse with race experience looks good enough to improve and be competitive and HAYTHAM could show up if the debutantes find the races all too much.

1 BUCKS OH SEVEN * No. 100
2 STAR INVINCIBLE * Has enough speed to be competitive but needs to find something late. 33
3 ALWAYS THERE * Hard to consider on debut effort. 100
4 BELIEVE IT OR NOT * Resuming for new stable sans blinkers and like to see support before considering. 50
5 HAYTHAM *** Not a mile away on debut and will improve for the run with extra trip in his favour. 6.00
6 LEONARDO ** Solid at local trials and has found a weak enough race to consider on debut. 8.00
7 SHADOW OF WAR *** Has shown more than enough wining two trials to think he is the one to beat in this. 1.80
8 SPECIAL RAIN ** Has had plenty of trials and most recent with headgear solid enough to finish in the mix here. 12
9 SUPER GENIUS *** Showed ability at the trials and will keep the favourite honest. 3.50

Race 3

Selections; 1 LIM’S SINCERE – 3 LIM’S ACTION – 4 COURT CASE – 5 THE COSMOS
LIM’S SINCERE looks hard to beat in this Class 4 Sprint and could be one of the better bets of the day. The 4YO has been more than competitive in better races than this of late and with Dan Beasley having a good sighter on the Steve Burridge-trained gelding at his last start, he should get the job done from gate 6 in his recent winning grade and trip. Another Lim-owned horse in LIM’S ACTION could be a good value option though. Dan Meagher trains this one and given he had all sorts of excuses last start and didn’t finish far away from the winner, that run good enough to follow – hopefully at odds. In the Lim’s pair favour is the fact that both COURT CASE and THE COSMOS – while in very good form – struggle to win and a couple of recent winners in ENTHUSE and THUNDER CAT, both might find Class 4 a tough option.

1 LIM’S SINCERE *** In solid form in better races than this and hard to beat in recent wining Class. 4.00
2 SURE WIN ** Has speed to burn and might have something left in the tank dropping to Class 4. 20
3 LIM’S ACTION *** Last run a lot better than the result and worth thought at odds. 20
4 COURT CASE *** Hard to fault honest form but needs a result. 6.00
5 THE COSMOS ** Another that refuses to run a bad race but lack of winning form with support a big concern. 5.00
6 GIORGIO * Freshened after two shockers over the mile and have to take on trust. 33
7 THUNDER CAT ** Ignore last start on the turf where he looked to have issues as Poly form prior very good and pay to respect. 12
8 MASTER DRAGON * Struggling. 200
9 FAT POWER * No. 100
10 RIKIOH * Goes OK on his day but like to see in something easier. 50
11 ENTHUSE ** Found some form in Class 5 and pay to include in exotics in a race with no depth. 12

Race 4

Selections; 1 OLLIE EAGLE – 10 TAICHI BELT – 4 GABBAR – 2 LIM’S SHOT
The second maiden on the card and unfortunately this race lacks more depth than the RM Poly sprint. In fact eight of the twelve-horse field would struggle to be competitive on race or exposed trial form and they could very well look like “brown’s cows” in the straight. What makes it tough is not much separates the top three picks with OLLIE EAGLE, GABBAR and TAICHI BELT all ready to win. OLLIE EAGLE resumes with blinkers added and given some nice recent trials and good form from his first campaign, he is the pick. In saying that, GABBAR drops back in trip after issues last start but is fresh enough to win over 1200m and TAICHI BELT showed more than enough at his debut to think the stable will be confident he can win this. LIM’S SHOT the only other horse worth mentioning although he may be a better winning option when blinkers go on.

1 OLLIE EAGLE *** Handy type resuming with a blinkers added and recent trials suggest he gives this a shake. 2.00
2 LIM’S SHOT ** Recent good trial was with headgear but certainly showed enough to go well on debut. 12
3 ZARULES * Appreciates first up run but should need longer. 50
4 GABBAR *** Freshened after returning not striding over a mile last start and should win soon. 4.50
5 WESTERN TOWKAY * Battled on OK last start but needs to show more before considering. 50
6 SGFIFTY * No. 100
7 MR FATBOY * Pushed at recent trial and market best guide on debut. 33
8 OCEAN DE LAGO * Should need further to show his best. 50
9 RED RACKHAM * Blinkers off after poor debut but easier to ignore. 100
10 TAICHI BELT *** Did more than enough on debut to think he gives this weak one a shake. 3.00
11 GRIZABELLA MEMORY * Nothing at two runs this campaign and have to take on trust. 33
12 SUPER BRAHMA * Nothing at local trial and would need market support. 50

Race 5

Selections; 1 Q NINE MAXIM – 6 DRAGON G – 2 SING EXPRESS – 5 DANNY
This race could see a very busy finish with most of the capacity field in solid form or suited and ready to improve over two turns on the Poly. But we love a Class dropper and Q NINE MAGIC will very much appreciate Class 5 and could be hard to beat. The 5YO has been in good form on the Poly in better company than this and given this is his first foray into the bottom Class, he can knock in his second career win. DRAGON G has five wins to his name and showed last start he is not far away from adding his sixth. The 7YO ran on well last start over the mile and the extra 200m looks ideal. Two horses that improve on recent outings and might be value are SING EXPRESS and DANNY. SING EXPRESS in particular could grow a leg at odds with the Poly and drop to Class 5 in his favour. Plenty of others to watch including BIG BANKER who is due and the veteran, DAAD’S THE WAY.

1 Q NINE MAXIM *** Significant drop in Class and form on the Poly good enough to win this. 3.00
2 SING EXPRESS *** Form looks hopeless but could grow a leg back in Class 5 in a suitable Poly race. 20
3 DAAD’S THE WAY ** Veteran in solid form and should be battling away at the finish. 12
4 BORDEAUX ** Battled on last start and should be competitive in this field. 12
5 DANNY *** Draw a concern but had all sorts of excuses last start and goes close on best form. 12
6 DRAGON G *** Showed last start why he is always a show in races like this and can win. 8.00
7 QUETZAL ** Overdue to break maiden status and will be running on strongly late. 8.00
8 GREAT WARRIOR ** Maiden in solid form and gets his chance from the ace. 12
9 BIG BANKER *** Supported when placing similar affair last start and right in this finish. 5.00
10 MEGABUCKS * No. 100
11 SHABBAT * Long-term maiden who is easier to ignore. 50
12 GODS SPEED ** Placed last start at odds and has to be considered from gate 4. 10
13 EDEN GARDEN ** Ran on well when not far away over the mile last start and worth a look if he gets a start. 12
14 GREAT LIGHT * Tough horse to follow but pay to forget last start and keep safe. 20

Race 6

Selections; 7 LIM’S INVINCIBLE – 6 LADY IFFRAAJ – 5 FINE CHOICE – 9 STOCK BROKER
The obvious choice in this Class 4 Poly sprint is LIM’S INVINCIBLE and no reason to look elsewhere for the top pick. True, the 3YO filly just fell over the line when breaking her maiden status with no weight at her second career start, but she has found a very weak Class 4 and she could be hard to beat. In her favour is most others come into this with poor form under their belt or struggle as a rule to win. Case in point is LADY IFFRAAJ who is super honest but hasn’t won since making it back-to-back wins in January. FINE CHOICE is in a similar boat, with albeit less runs since his last win back August 2015, but both should be in the mix. STOCK BROKER also looks well placed in this weak field to show his best and there are a few others that might take the opportunity of a race with no depth to figure in the prizemoney.

1 CAIRO ** Struggling in better Company but has won in Class 4 so watch for support. 6.00
2 LIM’S ELUSIVE * Been in the mix last couple but prefer over longer. 20
3 MEGATHINK * Gets blinkers but no. 100
4 DESERT FOX * Should be doing better in Class 4 and have to take on trust. 20
5 FINE CHOICE *** Two runs this campaign have been good and gets his chance from the ace. 6.00
6 LADY IFFRAAJ *** Honest and should figure heavily in this finish but lack of winning form a concern. 8.00
7 LIM’S INVINCIBLE *** Has speed to burn and has found a weak enough Class 4 to win again. 2.20
8 LIVELY DRAGON ** Form reads badly but could give a sight from gate 1 in this poor field. 12
9 STOCK BROKER *** Worked home well last start from wide draw and could figure prominently from the good gate. 12
10 A LOT IN HAND * Has shown little since surprise win this Class four starts back and have to take on trust. 33
11 ALAN ** Usually competitive on the Poly and has to be some show in this weak field. 12

Race 7

Selections; 1 FORTUNE WINNER – 9 IRON MAN – 10 BACH’S AIR – 11 DISTINCTIVE DARCI
While the previous race had no depth, this race has good form from the top to the bottom and looks a cracker on paper. Starting from the top, FORTUNE WINNER absolutely smashed them last start when dropping back to 1200m on the Poly and connections have done the smart thing staying with a similar affair. The two other last start winners in the race are down in the weights after last start Class 4 wins but both BACH’S AIR and DISTINCTIVE DARCI can win again. In fact BACH’S AIR win was full of authority so he is a horse to follow while that was a hat-trick for DISTINCTIVE DARCI so he is obviously in fine form. Happy to have IRON MAN involved as well given he had supported and possibly had excuses at his Singapore debut and could show his best on recent trial form. Hard to leave out SUN PIONEER and BRAHMA CIRCUS but can’t pick them all.

1 FORTUNE WINNER *** Absolutely bolted in last start over this trip and have to follow on that effort. 7.00
2 HERMANO MENOR ** Long time between wins but in solid form and did place at only start on the Poly. 12
3 SUN PIONEER *** Found a rich vein of form and pay to keep following each-way. 8.00
4 BRAHMA CIRCUS *** Drop back from the mile but freshened by nice trial and always a show. 12
5 HIMALAYA DRAGON ** Draw some concern but in solid form this campaign and keeps a few honest. 20
6 NINETYSEVEN GOLD ** Did it tough last start so ignore and take on good form prior which included a Poly win. 12
7 SUPERNOVA * Back in trip and have to take on trust. 50
8 LUMINIFF LAD ** For looks hopeless but can improve at odds back on his preferred surface. 12
9 IRON MAN *** Didn’t impress at Singapore debut with support but subsequent trials very good and worth another serious look. 8.00
10 BACH’S AIR *** Broke Singapore duck with serious support last start and that strong win good enough to follow. 4.00
11 DISTINCTIVE DARCI *** Another smart type stepping up from a strong Class 4 win and hard to argue with form. 4.00

Race 8

Selections; 1 DAMON – 3 PENTAGON – 8 LIKA TIGER – 5 EN CIVIL
There is a last start winner in the field, MURDOCH, but given he had to share that win in KSD Company and it was at odds, the better form is elsewhere. And again starting from the top, DAMON looks hardest to beat. The 4YO can be his own worst enemy but it may be a matter of if he goes straight late, he wins. Plenty of others that win without surprising including PENTAGON who never had a chance in better Company than this last start and he has to be a big show on his two wins prior to that run. Likewise, LIKA TIGER comes off a shocker but it may pay to find excuses for that poor effort as he wins races like this. EN CIVIL picks himself on his solid form of late and pay to keep an eye on some others in exotics at odds including OVER EASY who could run a cheeky race.

1 DAMON *** All sorts of excuses not to win last start and gets his chance to make quick amends here. 2.80
2 MARTIN ** Showed at his last two starts he will be competitive in Class 4 and worth an each-way look. 12
3 PENTAGON *** May pay to put a line through last start as this is easier and form prior very good. 5.00
4 MURDOCH * Dead-heated at long odds in KSD Company last start and have to take on trust. 33
5 EN CIVIL *** Always a strong each-way hope in races like this and happy to follow. 4.00
6 ECLIPSE DANCER ** Appreciates first up run and should improve enough to be competitive over the mile. 20
7 MCGREGOR ** Just fair at his last couple but goes OK when having a good day. 33
8 LIKA TIGER *** Could make excuses last start and would be in the winning mix on form prior. 6.00
9 YU LONG EMPEROR * Maiden who will improve with racing but should need easier than this. 50
10 KAI POWER * Gets blinkers but should need easier and longer again. 33
11 OVER EASY ** Found it all too tough last start but can have a say out front. 33
12 MASTER BANGER * Can run a cheeky race but should need easier. 20

Race 9

Selections; 1 KELTIC KARMA – 8 GOLD CROWN – 3 SATELLITE MAN – 5 STAR GENIUS
As usual a very competitive Class 4 race to finish the night and with two horses – KELTIC KARMA and SATELLITE MAN – gunning for winning hat tricks. Of the two, KELTIC KARMA was impressive winning in Novice Company over this trip last start and given he only carries 0.5kg more here, he is hardest to beat. SATELLITE MAN is up in grade after KSD wins but his recent trial suggests he is up to the task. Too many others to mention but GOLD CROWN is in form and is always a winning show over his pet trip while SAVAGE STORM, STAR GENIUS, STORM TROOPER, LUCKY LINCOLN and even the second emergency, DREAMWEAVER, all win without surprising.

1 KELTIC KARMA *** Backed up maiden win with strong victory carrying weight at Novice conditions and this is no harder. 3.00
2 LITTLE BIG MAN ** Appreciates what was a solid first up run and will win races like this so pay to keep safe. 12
3 SATELLITE MAN *** Won his last two in KSD Company over 1200m but recent trial good enough to go close in this. 3.50
4 SAVAGE STORM *** Won this trip in Class 4 two starts back and has to be a winning show. 12
5 STAR GENIUS *** Blinkers back off and tongue-tie back on as he tries to turn some good form into a win. 8.00
6 STORM TROOPER *** Issues last start so pay to ignore as this race looks very suitable and must go close. 20
7 PALLADIO * Issues at his last couple and have to take on trust. 50
8 GOLD CROWN *** In terrific form and wins a race like this more often than not. 8.00
9 LUCKY LINCOLN *** Wide gate a concern but looks a handy type who can be followed through the distances. 12
10 ROC THAT ** Nothing on the Poly last start but previous run this trip on the turf good enough to keep safe here. 33
11 JOYOUS ** Took a drop to Class 5 to win but should be competitive. 20
12 WINNING STAR * Another last start Class 5 winner but better suited on the Poly. 33
13 MONGOLIAN CHIEF ** Just missed last start on the Poly in this grade but can show up here. 20
14 DREAMWEAVER *** Yet to win in Singapore but looks due and this race is suitable so keep safe with tongue-tie off. 12
