Peter Incident: State Declines To Prosecute NHA Official

Sequel to incident at Turffontein stables

The State has declined to prosecute the National Horseracing Authority’s special investigating officer on assault charges.

Mrs Marcelle Peter had laid criminal charges in November 2023 against Mr Riaan Janse Van Rensburg, a Senior Special Investigating Officer in the employ of The National Horseracing Authority.

Following the completion of investigations by the South African Police into this charge, on 4 March 2024 the Control Prosecutor at the Booysens Magistrate Court, after considering all available evidence, inclusive of the video footage of the day’s event, declined to prosecute for lack of a prima facie case.
