Rampant Gimme Tops The Charts

Varsfontein stallion extends his influence

For the first time since 2015/16, it appears that Silvano will not head the Leading Sires By Stakes list in South Africa this season.

The five times South African champion sire is fourth on the Leading Sires List , with stablemates Gimmethegreenlight and Master Of My Fate currently first and second on the South African General Sires List and triple Equus Champion What A Winter third.

Gimmethegreenlight (AUS)

Gimmethegreenlight

Gimmethegreenlight, who shares his remarkable sire More Than Ready with current boom sire Daredevil, as well as ill-fated but successful Australian sire Sebring, has had an excellent season, once again, in 2020-2021.

Gimmethegreenlight’s progeny, headed by nine black type winners this season, have earned R8 941 175 -placing him more than R1,579 million in front of runner up Master Of My Fate.

His nine black type winners, who have won ten graded/listed races this season thus far, are headed by Gr1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut/Gr1 4Racing Champions Challenge hero Got The Greenlight, graded stakes winning 2yo’s Cosmic Highway and Gimme Dat, and  stakes winning fillies Gee For Go, Roll In The Hay and Vodacom Durban July entry, She’s A Keeper.

Gimmethegreenlight also pulled off a notable feat when his sons Got The Greenlight and Second Base finished first and second in the Gr1 Champions Challenge. He had no fewer than four runners in the Champions Challenge!

  • Leading Sire of 2yo’s

Gimmethegreenlight, whose sire has produced some exceptional 2yo’s, including the Golden Slipper winners Sebring and Phelan Ready, also heads this season’s Leading Sires of 2yo’s log by stakes.

The Varsfontein resident, responsible for a pair of juvenile debut winners over the weekend in the form of Green Taffety and Gimme A Prince – both incidentally out of Trippi mares – has had a tremendous run with his youngsters, including this season’s graded stakes winners Cosmic Highway and Gimme Dat.

  • Leading Sire of 3yo’s

Rather surprisingly, Captain Al does not head this season’s Leading Sires of 3yo’s list.

The sire of Malmoos and Captain’s Ransom is second on this table, behind the rampant Gimmethegreenlight. The latter, whose black type winning sophomores this season include Gee For Go, Paisley Park, and Second Base, tops this table with his 3yo’s having banked in excess of R4,35 million in 2020-2021 thus far.

  • Leading First Season Sire

Redoute’s Choice has already enjoyed notable success as a sire of sires through the likes of Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt and Stratum, and, in the form of Rafeef, the late, great son of Danehill looks to have come up with another promising sire son.

Rafeef

A full-brother to champion Mustaaqeem – the latter destined for a stud career in Chile – Rafeef is well clear on the Leading First Season Sires list, with his 9 individual first crop winners also placing the son of National Colour fourth on the South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2yo’s charts (by stakes) -Rafeef is third on that list by individual winners.

Figures are up to Sunday 9 May.

  • Leading Second Season Sire

Act Of War (Dynasty) is South Africa’s Leading Second Season Sire for 2020-2021 thus far.

Act Of War

The former Cape Guineas winner made a cracking start, with his very first crop headed by Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara winner War Of Athena, as well as the smart sorts Stella Act, Bartholdi and Battle Force, and he looks another potentially smart sire son of Dynasty.

  • Leading Broodmare Sire

South Africa’s Leading Broodmare Sire for 2018/19 and 2019/20, Jet Master is once again top of the country’s Leading Broodmare Sires list this season.

Jet Master

The former seven times Champion South African sire’s daughters have produced more than 100 winners this season, with Jet Master mares’ offspring having banked over R12,465 million in 2020/21.

Jet Master mares have produced six black type winners this season, including Gr1 Cape Town Met winner Rainbow Bridge, Gr3 London News Stakes victress Running Brave, and Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark. The first two home in this season’s G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate are both out of Jet Master mares.
