Unraced Lateral Colt Tops Shongweni

Average of R32 000 achieved at succesful mixed sale

An unraced Lateral colt, and graduate of the 2017 BSA National Yearling Sale, topped the charts at a buoyant and lively 2018 Shongweni Mixed Sale held at the picturesque polo grounds outside Durban on Tuesday.

Duncan Howells Racing, who originally purchased the good-looking Cosmic Cutter at the 2017 BSA National Yearling Sale for R300 000 off the Maine Chance draft, went to R340 000 for the chestnut son of Lateral.

The 2yo, sold to dissolve a partnership off the supplementary pages ( #119), is out of the Silvano mare Cosmic Dream, and is a half brother to the Gr2 The Debutante winner Cosmic Light (Querari), who raced from the same yard.

Mayfair Speculators top-seller Rocky Valley

Mayfair Speculators offered 14 lots with an aggregate of R792 000 attained.

Four of their 14 lots did not reach reserve, with top price of R190 000 paid by CK Horse Racing for the stakes-placed four-time winner Rocky Valley (#25), a son of Seventh Rock.

The sale aggregate was R3 404 000, with 106 of the 121 lots sold at an average of R32 000.

The quality of the 2018 catalogue was reflected in the year-on-year comparisons, where 2017 produced an aggregate of R2 469 500, with an average of R23 500  from 105 lots sold.The top price was R240 000.
