Lot 156 – Naples Bay (Giant’s Causeway – Cappucino Bay)

Keeneland’s November breeding stock sale runs from 4 – 14 November and has posted strong results for the first two days.

Tuesday’s first Book 1 session sold 135 horses, including seven for $1 million or more. Sales topper was Lot 156, the $3.6 million broodmare Naples Bay.

The half-sister to Medaglia d’Oro was consigned by Clairborne Farm on behalf of Edward A. Cox Jr. The mare is by Coolmore sire Giant’s Causeway and is a graded stakes winner. The 6-year-old daughter of stakes winner Cappucino Bay (Bailjumper) was sold in foal to Claiborne’s hot young stallion, War Front.

“She comes from a great family, she’s by Giant’s Causeway, she’s in foal to War Front, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing that,” said M. V. Magnier, who signed the ticket on Coolmore’s behalf. “Not sure what we’re going to do with her, but she could easily go back to Galileo. We’ll decide over the next couple of days.”

The purchase put Magnier at the top of the log of the day’s buyers and Claiborne ended the day as the session’s top consignor with an average of $1,403,333.

Also active on day 1 was Markus Jooste’s Mayfair Speculators, which signed for Lot 83, Gianthalf for $335,000. The Giant’s Causeway mare out of Halfbridled (Unbridled) is believed to be in foal to Exchange Rate.
