11h00 Start – Vaal’s Timing Experiment Today

The Pick 6 starts in the fourth at 12h40

Nine races are carded today for the experimental Vaal meeting which starts earlier than the norm at 11h00.

With the climate in the region playing havoc with racing, the authorities are trialling an earlier start – something that is surely long overdue!

Veteran champion jockey Mark Khan has two rides on today’s card after starting his season with one mount at Turffontein on Monday.

But it is Craig Zackey, who has seven rides on the card with a few decent chances of winning, who may be the jockey worth following.

Jimmy The Rich writes that Trainer Mike de Kock saddles Zoffany’s Girl in the lucky last race.

She produced a promising debut effort over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. She lost a length at the start, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging.

The daughter of Zoffany will love the rise to 1700m and with the natural improvement that is expected, she can win in this field.

Nordic Rebel from the Erico Verdonese stable takes his place in Race 5 and he represents decent each way value.

He has some decent recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last start has come out and won since.

He has won twice and finished third four times from nine starts over this course and distance.

He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Rachel Venniker which will help his chances.

Nordic Rebel will run with a compression mask on today.

Joshwin Solomons and Muzi Yeni will not be riding today.
