On Saturday, 02 June at Greyville Racecourse, there was a total of 105 points up for grabs in the 3 feature races. In the Gr.1 Daily News 2000, ruling favourite for this year’s Vodacom Durban July and leading fancy in the competition, Jackson (Dynasty) bagged 20 points when showing his class in no uncertain terms. Trainer Brett Crawford now has a month to prepare him for the Vodacom Durban July, Africa’s premier horseracing event which will be on Saturday, 07 July at Greyville Racecourse. Second placed Vettel (Know Heights) scored 14 points and third placed, Shogunnar (Solskjaer) was not in the competition.

In the Gr.1Woolalington 2000, trainer Mike De Kock saddled the odds on favourite Ilha Bela (Fort Wood) and she did look like the filly to beat after her impressive win in the Gr.1 SA Oaks. However, under an enterprising ride by jockey Anthony Delpech, it was her stable companion that ran the race of her career. Viva Maria (Jet Master) led from start to finish, scoring 20 points plus the 5 bonus points offered for winning horses paying more than R15 on SAFTote (R24.60). Ilha Bella had to settle for second followed by Dubai Gina (Dubai Destination) back in third. Points scored were 14 and 10 respectively.

The Gr.3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup attracted a competitive field of useful stayers. Blake (Dynasty), from the stable of Dean Kannemeyer won a good race and he now must be one of the leading contenders for this year’s Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup run at the end of July. Sage Throne (Dynasty) finished second and Soul Master (Jet Master) was third. Points scored were 9, 5 and 3 respectively.

The second bonus race in the competition, the Gr.1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge run over the Clairwood mile will take place this Saturday and will also feature the Gr.2 Tibouchina Stakes and the Gr.3 Cup Trail, the three features worth a total of 95 points.

The entire Leader Board can now be viewed on the Charity Turf Challenge home page.

After the first month of the competition, “2012 charity turf challenge” leads with 116 points having selected the Gr.1 South African Fillies Sprint winner, Ebony Flyer, and both Gr.1 winners over the weekend, Jackson and Viva Maria. This weekend, the current leader is well represented with the in-form pair of Variety Club and Tales Of Bravery lining up in the Gr.1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge and Welwitschia in the Gr.2 Tibouchina Stakes.

Joint second on the leader board are “Dallas” and “JJ THE JET PLANE” on 115 points. “Dallas”, has accumulated points with Jackson, Ebony Flyer, Tales Of Bravery, Welwitscia, Beach Beauty, Ilha Bela and Dubai Gina and will be hoping that Princess Victoria will bounce back in the Gr.2 Tibouchina. “JJ THE JET PLANE” has scored handsomely thus far with Jackson, Ebony Flyer, Chesalon, Beach Beauty, Variety Club and Ilha Bela and will want to see What A Winter find his best form in the bonus race.

The leading horses by points of the competition thus far are:
