Douglas Macarthur storms to a runaway win

The Aidan OBrien-trained Douglas Macarthur lived up to his pedigree and sale price when taking out the Frank Conroy EBF Maiden on Thursday.

He was a runaway winner after a quiet start on debut.

The son of Galileo out of the money spinning Green Desert mare Alluring Park is a full-brother to the Gr1 Oaks winner Was and out of a sister to the Gr1 Derby winner New Approach – the sire of this term’s SA Champions Season Gr2 Drill Hall Stakes winner, New Predator.

In winning his maiden for owners Markus Jooste, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs Sue Magnier, Douglas Macarthur collected 49,489 Euros made up of a £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus, prizemoney of 10,147 Euros and a Plus 10 Bonus of 9,375 Euros.

The handsome winner was bought at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 1,250,000 guineas by MV Magnier from the draft of Lodge Park Stud.

Douglas Macarthur is set to be aimed next at the Beresford or Golden Fleece Stakes and his victory propelled him to the top of betting for the 2017 Derby with prices as short as 12/1.
