Duke Of Marmalade – gets them running
Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade was in the news once again this weekend–this time in the Southern Hemisphere.
Danehill’s champion son was represented by a smart stakes winner in Australia, while his South African performers including the very eye catching filly Marmalady.
Duke Of Marmalade’s latest black type winner, One For One, looks a most progressive three-year-old.
Ridden by Craig Williams, One For One dug down deep to land Sunday’s Listed Poseidon Stakes over 1400m at Flemington.
His jockey was impressed by One For One following Sunday’s race, with Williams commenting, “The race panned out a bit different to what we first thought on paper.
“He probably relaxed a little too well coming back in distance but was nice and solid throughout the straight.”
A tilt at the Gr3 Carbine Club Stakes could be next on the cards for One For One, who joins Group winners Big Memory and Lady Cumquat as high class winners to represent Duke Of Marmalade “Down Under.”
One For One, whose dam Stolen Girl has a yearling Duke Of Marmalade filly this season, is the 25th stakes winner for his sire, whose offspring include this year’s G1 Ladbrokes St Leger winner Simple Verse.
Local Winner
Duke Of Marmalade, whose South African runners also include high class graded winning sprinter Moofeed, also looks to have a really nice local runner to his credit in the form of Marmalady.
The latter made it three wins on the bounce for scoring for veteran trainer Ormond Ferraris at Turffontein on Saturday in the style of a mare going places. Marmalady simply drew clear to win the WSB Premier Racing Pinnacle Stakes leaving Summer Cup entries Deo Juvento and Kingmambo’s Legacy gasping in her wake.
Bred by Strawberry Hill Stud, Marmalady has now won her last three by a total of more than eight lengths and she looks a performer capable of picking some valuable black type for owners Ridgemount Stud and Mr and Mrs Brian Finch.
