Frankel To Fire

It's time for the talking to stop

History is set to take place at Newbury today where John Gosden’s Cunco is entered to make his debut and become the first offspring of Frankel to visit the track.

Sir Henry Cecil and Frankel

The late, great Sir Henry Cecil and his prized champion, Frankel

Much of the feedback about the Frankels, both at the sales and in training, is that generally he has not yet stamped his stock and they come in all shapes and sizes.

Although Frankel himself made his debut in August of his second year, many of his sons and daughters could take longer to appear, and those more forward will be seen over seven furlongs-plus, though Cunco’s intended debut on Friday will be one of interest for many racing professionals, most notably Teddy Grimthorpe.

Grimthorpe, racing manager to Frankel’s owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, said: “It’s time for the talking to stop for Frankel. It’s no good for me to keep saying what a great stallion he is and how fantastic his two-year-olds are – which they are by the way – as they have to do it on the track.

“Hopefully we’ll see some nice ones this summer as there are plenty about. We have many homebreds by him but nothing to run just yet. Hopefully we’ll see some nice ones later on.”

Gosden has a clutch of mainly colts by Frankel, and Cunco, a son of Chrysanthemum who was the very first born, has been seen in action on the Limekilns in Newmarket.
