Derk is a key member of the KwaZulu-Natal Stipendiary Board, in his capacity as Senior Stipendiary Steward.

  • Timothy Nhlapho

With over 13 years’ experience as a Stipendiary Steward in Cape Town and currently in Durban, Mr Nhlapho’s potential was rewarded when he was selected to spend two weeks in Japan, attending the annual General Study Program in 2018.

  • Louis Nhlapo

Mr Nhlapo was appointed as a member of the Central Provinces Stipendiary Board in 2015, after a life-time spent in the horseracing industry in various roles.  Having commenced a 15 year career as a Groom, while still at school and then as a Work Rider, Louis also enjoyed a highly successful career as a Jockey, which spanned some 15 years.  In 2019, Louis attended the annual General Study Program in Japan.

  • Simon Connaway (Trainee)

Mr Connaway has been a long serving part-time race day employee of The NHA in KwaZulu-Natal. Simon was appointed as a Trainee Stipendiary Steward at the beginning of the year.
