Saturday’s likely Dingaans favourite Harry’s Son is by Coolmore Australia stallion Haradasun, who is proving something of a value sire in the esteemed portfolio, standing for a cover fee of a relatively cheap, Au$5500.
The stallion was moved to Grangewilliam Stud in Waitotara New Zealand earlier this year in a joint venture with Coolmore.
A son of Fusaichi Pegasus and the Gr1 Australian Oaks winner Circles Of Gold, he hails from the family of the champion Australian and European sprinter Starspangledbanner.
A good racehorse, Haradasun won the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap, George Ryder Stakes and the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was the champion Australian three-year-old colt of his year and the champion older miler of England.
Harry’s Son was to be Haradasun’s first Gr1 winner when winning the Premier’s Champion Stakes last season.
His other leading representatives include the Gr.2 Western Australian Derby winner Respondent, who also has two Listed successes to his credit, and the Listed Nudgee Handicap winner Tukiyo while Prince Harada is a dual Group Three placegetter. His oldest are four-year-olds with 46 individual winners from that crop.
Harry’s Son was bought shrewdly (they always are when they are Equus Champions and on a hat-trick of Group wins!) by Phil Georgiou for Au$ 60 000 off the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
