Inquiry & Suspension: W Agrella, G v Niekerk

NHRA: keeping the show on the road

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Port Elizabeth which was finalised on 20 December 2010, Jockey Wayne Agrella was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride KARL SPRUCE out to the end of Race 2 at Fairview Racecourse on 26 November 2010.

Mr Agrella pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Agrella guilty and imposed a fine of R10 000-00 of which R5 000-00 is suspended for a period of one year on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence during that period.

Mr Agrella has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Apprentice Jockey Grant van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of JET PRINCESS, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners between the 1400 and 1300 metre mark in Race 3 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 21 December 2010.

Mr van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 27 December 2010 to 2 January 2011, both days inclusive.
