Jarred Samuel – home with Mom

Jockey Jarred Samuel has been discharged from hospital just over a week after a horror fall at Greyville Racecourse.

Samuel was in an induced coma for some days after he fell over the neck of his mount, Fly With Me, in the fourth race at Greyville on Friday 4 December.

Apprentice N Gumede was recently suspended for causing the interference that led to the accident.

Samuel is suffering a bad concussion and has been exercising. But has been given strict bed rest and a source close to the family said that they expected him to be out of the saddle for at least three months.

He is recuperating at his parents home in Pietermaritzburg.

There was no word on whether an official inquiry would be opened into the handling of the accident by the medical personnel involved.
