Snaith Beach And Breakfast A Winner

13 Met day stars on show

In typically innovative Snaith Racing fashion a hugely successful Sun Met Beach and Breakfast was held at Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg on Friday morning with thirteen of the champion yard’s Met day runners hogging the limelight.

Justin Snaith and his family operation have dominated the Cape flagship raceday for many years and they decided to up the ante in 2018 with an inuagural social event that brother Jono described as a definite repeat.

“We hosted about 100 people and took the opportunity to thank our supporters from owners, breeders, the racing media and the sponsors for all contributing to this wonderful game,” said a thrilled Jono Snaith.

He said that the timing of the Cape Premier Yearling Sale had presented a perfect opportunity to host a good mix of foreign visitors and local supporters.

“We have visited the Muizenberg Beach for years. Maybe we even take it for granted, some days! But it’s a magnificent environment and the horses on the beach lend themselves to splendid photo opportunities. And throw in the beautiful people – and it’s a winner! We all need to get racing out there to the public and to show what the game is really all about. I didn’t hear a single negative chirp all morning. Afterwards we went to the excellent Cafe Labia for a sumptious meal and the atmosphere was out of this world.”

On the question of which celebrities had been present, Jono said that they had special personalised saddle cloths made for their stars – the horses.

“That was a great touch. When the horses came off the float they proved to be the real stars and celebrities of the show. We were honoured to have Miss South Africa Ade Van Heerden there to add a touch of Sun Met glamour,” he added.

Countess Labia greets Jo’s Bond

Snaith Racing owner Countess Labia, of the Cafe Labia, also dropped by to join in the festivities and posed for a photograph with her top speedster, Jo’s Bond.

“It will be even bigger next year,” predicted Jono. It was notable that Supersport filmed the event for mainstream television.

The Snaiths have five Sun Met runners as well as odds-on favourite for the Gr1 Majorca, champion 3yo Snowdance.

“We are now all geared for Met day and are looking forward to enjoying one of the great events on the SA horseracing calendar. And please allow us to thank everybody for attending this morning. There are quite a few parties and social commitments during this time. The turnout here was excellent!”
