SA Fillies Sprint Is Target For Futura Flyer

4 wins from 5 starts for Drakenstein filly

The Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on 5 June is the medium term plan for Futura’s smart daughter Sweet Future who toyed with her opposition as she made full use of her weight advantage to win Saturday’s R100 000 Listed Bauhinia Handicap at the Vaal.

A first stakes break came at just the fifth time of asking for the big-actioned bay as she powered away from her field over the final 100m to put 3,75 lengths between herself and Lezeanne Forbes’ KZN raider Linear (15-1).

Sweet Future (2-1) provided Wilgerbosdrift-Mauritzfontein sponsored rider S’manga Khumalo with his third success on the day and also marked a happy double for the Drakenstein-Azzie combination.

The winner clocked 55,31 secs for the 1000m straight.

Drakenstein Stud’s four-time Dynasty Gr1 winner Futura has made a promising start to his stud career, with his early runners including Gr2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner Nourbese, dual stakes winning filly Dindingwe, and the smart Fantastical, who along with Sweet Future are a bright bunch.

A half-sister to 2 winners, including the useful Queen Of Quiet, the Drakenstein bred Sweet Future is out of the Trippi mare Cape Sugarbird.

She has won 4 races with 1 place from 5 starts for stakes of R213 000.

“She’s very exciting,” as Adam Azzie puts it!
