Capetown Noir’ after his Queen’s Plate victory – deserving of Champion Miler?

South Africa’s premier horseracing and summer social calendar event, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate (LQP), has been listed as one of the world’s top five race days by The Telegraph in Great Britain, ranking it alongside the illustrious likes of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Paris), Breeder’s Cup (California), Melbourne Cup and Dubai World Cup.

Described by The Telegraph as “a day of top racing and people watching [and]glam, sunbronzed crowd”, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will also feature an exchange with England’s iconic Glorious Goodwood Peninsula Stakes when it returns to Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town for its 154th running on 10 January, 2015. The day’s other internationally recognised race is The Breeder’s Cup qualifier.

“The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is very proud to have received this accolade as one of the top five race days in the world, indicative of the Cape’s reputation as a global destination and centre of horseracing excellence,” says Katherine Gray, Coordinator of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

Complementing this distinctive global appeal, LQP 2015’s exciting 12-race card will set the country’s finest thoroughbreds against each other in pursuit of the coveted R1 million purse. It expects to see horseracing experts, betting buffs, local and international media, fashionistas, celebrities and socialites at the trackside to enjoy the on-the-turf action as well as Cape hospitality at its best. Phumelela Gaming’s Marketing Executive, Clyde Basel commented “Kenilworth Racing is incredibly proud to host an event of this stature and we look forward to building on the successes that the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate has already achieved”.

Trackside activities will include exceptional L’Ormarins wine and culinary creations and world-class after-party entertainment including headline international acts, enjoyed in the luxury of various exclusive areas. This in addition to the event’s traditional blue and white Best Dressed and Best Hat competitions, with the winner of the latter to be flown to England for a week next year to attend the legendary GloriousGoodwood, set to feature The LQP Stakes.

More exciting details on the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2015 will be revealed over the coming months.
